We'll be leaving around 2 am Wednesday morning. I checked their fishing license site. I won't be fishing because they want your social security number to get the license. Why do they need that? I don’t need to have them being hacked and there goes your information.

That seems odd. You already need to show valid ID.

Maybe stop in a tackle store and see for yourself? I agree no reason why that should be needed.

Perhaps "...or hunting..." contains the answer -> hunting = firearms.

I've bought fishing licenses there in the past, we've been going there every year for about the last 20 years or more. At first it was about $50 for a year license for out of state people. Then last year they jacked it up. Now the SS thing, I'll just pass.

No I didn't - I bought mine in a fly shop and they just needed my driver's license. Maybe things are different now - weird.

I'll find more information when I get up there. I'll check out the Fish & Game building there, also tackle shops.

I have never driven there but been there a bunch. Usually fly into Billings and drive to all the other cities. Always wanted to fish flat head. Great Jerky store along Flat head, S&S smoked meats. Funny all the towns are 2 hours from the next. Been to the menonites compound alot as they are always putting up new ones. Met lots of Jacobs along the way. Have a good trip and be carefull driving at night. Lots of Deer along the roads.

The trip takes us two days. Frist day 14 hours stopping at Ogden Utah for the night. Second day 12 hours driving.
We stop at the jerky place on the way up, it's about 20 miles from our daughter's house. Flathead lake has large lake trout, the sport fishing charter boats are pretty big.
It takes us almost 1 1/2 hours to drive the length of it from the south end to the north end.

Have a good trip. We will be up in July. Watch out for bears. They are grouchy when they start stirring in the spring. As a public service I post this bear warning every couple of years. You may have seen it before.

Thanks, we don't hike anymore, when we did they had signs and sometimes we could see bear claw marks on the trees.
Now we just drive into Glacier National Park and use the parking areas along the lake, with everone else.

If memory serves I think Colorado also wants the SSN? If you're headed to Billings, Lake Josephine has all you can catch bluegills, chunky largemouth and even pike. Or head south to Red Lodge for a killer rainbow and brook trout catching at Wild Bill lake. Beautiful country up there.

Thanks, we're heading to northwest Montana. Kalispell. Whitish lake is also pretty good, there are so many lakes to choose from up there that are fairly close.

Second gas stop was in Fillmore Utah.
They had ethanol free gas, the blue button one, it cost more but wanted to try it. Drove about 180 miles and got four more mpg. I'll check it again in Idaho, I still have a little less then half a tank.
Staying over in Ogden UT for the night.
We had rain off and on, not much through.
