I noticed the same the past few weeks, but it could be influenced by the tide and swell conditions.
I was thinking of getting out for a few hours tomorrow sunrise, just don't quite know where yet

I've been accustomed to taking a 1/2 bucket large maks home throwing megas, not even bait fishing.

The mackerel bite slows down during colder months but they are here year round.

During the colder months you’re more likely to have success off the piers in the bays where the water is warmer

I caught 5 this morning over by Spanish Landing from my float tube. They kept stealing my bait. My buddy caught some too. All were released so they are still there!

Wait for these dtirms to pass plus the cold fronts. Also it's much better in the AM, O dark thirty to just past gray light from my experience.

What I noticed is when the weather cools down the mak bits slow down as well. I usually catch them on jerkbaits but since it started getting cooler they become lazy and squid on a Carolina Rig seems to be working.

    They were biting at SI

Perfect conditions on the high into slack tides.

The Dolphin’s up and running, as they were fishing in the bay for at least a couple hours.

It's been slowing down from the summer/fall frenzy. Also the big swell and rain have affected the water clarity and the willingness to bite. Try to find the schools of bait and the birds, that's usually where the macks will be on the pier. Try krocs/kastmasters and another rod with sabiki or bobber with mack. If they don't bite up top try dropping it down. It's not just you though, the bite has definitely slowed down up there.
