Has anyone had any success at PLK last couple days. I'm considering making my first trip out if the bay on Saturday. Anything helps. Thanks in advance!

Last time I was out there was almost 2 weeks ago, so dunno if any of this still holds but...

Surface temp was a balmy 74-76F with not a sign of life topwater, but I metered a very strong thermocline about 40' down, and every strike and hookup happened just below this thermocline, on the outer edge of the kelp (what's left of it), in 70-90' deep water. And the only thing that really worked for me was vertical jigging small coltsniper knockoffs in blue/chrome or green/chrome "sardine" colors.

(Some diver buddies at work did tell me just yesterday that the water at the kelp footholds at PLK is still chilly compared to the surface, so there ya go.)

Last time I was there was Thursday last week. We ran into wide open bite on Calicos and Cudas. Calicos were good size, but cudas were small. This is on our way back from a pretty good day of catching dodos.

Radio chatter on a Wednesday said PLK was quiet......

For us, LJK was going off 8/29 in the AM. A buddy was going out as we were coming in about 10:30. They couldn’t make Macks or YT......So, dawn/morning bite LJK?

Thank you, I've been looking at it. I'll see how it looks this afternoon and then again in the morning before deciding to peek out of sd bay.

It was Labor Day last year when my dad and I had that epic day where we got 6 or so legal halibut. That was a pretty sweet day.

If I go I sure will. My kids are gonna be with me so safety is my only concern so if the weather is up it's gonna be the bay.

Went out of Mission Bay Wednesday morning. The water was pretty rough for my small boat. No kelp visible on top off the green tanks——- it was gone so we came back in and fished the bay.

Windy.com There is another one that looks similar and is called Windy, not as good as the Windy.com app.

We have too many great calm days to risk getting into trouble in a small boat. Our best fishing days of the season are coming up. Football season, kids back in school, really warm water temps and a large amount of bait in close, it’s going get really good.
