Looks like I’ll be off work early today down by j street marina. Anyone have any tips fishing down there? I’ve heard the halibut’s are bountiful.

Skunks are bountiful at J st. You need some type of water craft to really enjoy the South Bay. On foot, your best bet is crown cove.

Ewwwww J street lol. Yeah I gotta agree dj thrillz, it pretty much just sucks on that side. The Silver Strand side is a different story though. At j street you may catch some sting rays, a few spotties, and if you’re real lucky maybe a hali, but I wouldn’t hold your breathe.

I fish j street 5 days a week before work for at least 45 minutes to an hour from shore. If your fishing with a swim bait keep it small maybe 3" with 1/5 to 1/4 oz jig head. During high tide you can fish a shallow diving jerk bait or top-water for some nice Corvina. Live smelt is the ticket though if you've got the time. Easy launch for float-tubes and kayaks as well north of the pier 100 yards and your in a deep channel.

Thanks for the info. We got a slow day last Sunday, not sure whether it's the flat tide or mild cold front. This morning feels warmer, hopefully the bit resumes.

J st is a hidden gem for corvina and bonito, I'll just leave it at that. Up to you to figure it out. Plenty of halibut as well if you know where to look but I wouldn't eat them from back here.

I generally fly fish, but am taking a guest out on Saturday. What plastic/swim baits do I need for south bay?

To amplify, I will be renting a boat at Fiddler's Cove and starting out of there.

    If Texas rigging then
I would throw those havok swimbaits you can buy at Walmart. cheap and extremely durable. Perfect for the Texas rig, for swimbait fishing use the big hammers, white or natural colors

I have had fun fishing from my kayak down there. My most important tip for kayak fishing in that area is to start at high tide, and fish the ebb. There's significantly more water and it's much easier to maneuver above the weeds.

Agreed and will add that I like a 4+ft tidal flow and will fish it 3 hrs before and after the flood.

Anyone have any luck from shore at pepper park? Just visited for the first time and it was really quiet, tons of room to fish and no one around. A lady was smashing the mackerel and caught a jack Mack while I was there too...no luck for me on dropshot, not one bite.

Ehhh I wouldn’t waste your time there. Try around the Cays and Crown Cove if you really want to fish the South Bay.
