Seems like the bigger spotties are on the chew up here in N County. My last two lagoon sessions have had much better quality fish along with multiple break-offs. A couple of the break-off didn't really bother me, I suspect the unlucky critters were around 12" (clone size) spotties that just got into the rocks and sawed me off, but there have been at least 3 hook-ups that broke me off at the start of a high speed run. Those had to be something a little bit bigger than the clones ...just wish I could have at least got a peek at one. Both sessions I was throwing an LC and last Thursday my hyper-snap broke open on one fish and then another fish bent the treble and came unbuttoned. I replace all LC stock hooks with Gamakatsu 2X strong round bend, not wimpy.

Anyway, just wondering if the Grumps are waking up in Mission or the SD Bay??

I've been seeing some big ones being pulled out at night, on IG, but otherwise it seems like the daytime bite is slow.

Nice fish! Just one data point but I went out to Spanish Landing on Tuesday morning at peak high tide for 1.5hrs. Tossed Drop Shot, swimbait and crankbait for a big fat skunk! I heard from my ocean swimmer neighbor that the water had dropped 4 degrees that day so maybe that had something to do with it. It was also the first chilly night and morning that I've felt in SD this year. I did get 2 hits on the drop shot in close to the rocks but didn't hook them. I saw them and they were small.

My usual spots in MB have been mostly dead, I think I've caught 3 bass in the last 3 weeks. I've mostly been doing 930-11 am sessions.

I've had the same right down to bay and time frame, but only 1 as opposed to 3 fish. The bite has been tough for sure lately.

fished VI from 10-1p today for two hits and was able to bring in one 14" legal and missed the other. It's been painfully slow for me during the day

Not yet for me - 6 spotties last outing, all very small - but got to try out my new Garmin I just hooked up
What stuck with me was a kayak guy - I was 15' from the rocks, facing and casting at the rocks - and he
just had to paddle thru between me and the rocks - I would be embarrassed to do that to someone
Anyway, that was last Saturday, and the tide was minimal, so that did not help
    This Saturday looks better

Fished mission bay last night while my hoops were soaking. Lots of marks on sonar but couldn't catch anything except 2 big smelt on squid strips. Felt oddly lifeless out there.

I appreciate all the replies! I'm getting the feeling that the shore pounders session tomorrow night might be a little S L O O O W.? Ahh well, if it is at least we'll still be fishing.

The one by my house :emoji_wink: aka the over-pressured, pigpen trash dump. I'll send text next time I go.

    Rocks or beach?

Water temps definitely down. I've also noticed the water clarity has dropped, its been a lot more murky up here.

    I'm looking forward to it!!

I caught 3 Tuesday night 13” 11 and puny. All around sunset. East side of VI. But haven’t caught more than one per session in the past few weeks. Did manage 3 cuda in about 15 minutes at HP about a week ago. My little buddy broke the skunk that night!

I haven't targeted them for a long time but have been lately. Been a pretty tough go, get a few tail bites and short strikes. Finally stuck a few good ones on cut bait the other night (I know, cheating). About to buy a new baitcaster, the cadence I've rocked for year or so is pretty worked over, tried spinning gear a few outings buy just doesn't feel right for plastics on the bottom.

Yeah man!! That's like the one bait that has been working for me.
