Had to make a run out for the limit style tuna. Nice yellowfin and heard of a few big bluefin being caught.
some of the yellowfin were 25 lbs.

If the stable weather holds, we might get them still in a couple weeks.. Christmas? I kind of doubt it...

I hope they bite at least until Thanksgiving. I leave on a 10 day aboard the Excel in 6 long days. Not that we will be fishing the local yft, but having biggun BFT to finish a trip as an option would be nice if the lower banks aren't holding

2017 the big BFT went off on the 60 mile bank in mid November. After the big ones peaced out the little ones moved in and the boats were getting limits of ~30 lb BFT through most of December - so could definitely happen.

Then again, one winter storm can really change things out there. so let's hope the weather holds.

This is just a theory, but ever since those tuna pens have escalated, the local tuna bite seems to have exploded. My cousin and I counted 11 pens on one of our trips this year down south. Pens are huge and they have to be feeding mass amounts of food that’s leaching into the current. That, and the sound / smell that those pens put out would attract other schools that may otherwise pass by looking for food. On another note: I read a random article that popped up the other day about Stripe Bass. It was in the New York Times, and a woman food critic was testing the difference between wild, and farmed Stripers. She explains that the farmed stripers are from pens that are kept in Pacific waters off the coast of Northern Baja. ( near us ). May have something to do with our recent surge lately of surf stripers ? Anyway, lots of fish farming going on just south of SD, and the tuna bite just seems to keep on, keepin on.

Limits of a nice 20-40lb grade of YFT (2 30ish lb BFT also) on a private boat yesterday just north of the 226 (left them biting)

Most of them were on 4"/5" dines with 20-25lb short flouro leader (main line didn't matter) and #2 ringed circle hook. At the end we were playing around and got one on a small popper, 1 on a LC 110 flash minnow (rusty hook ring broke off at the boat), and a couple on small Mega Baits.
