Took a coworker out on the raft this morning. She fishes more than I do but had only been boating in the bay one other time. I was getting them on the crank so she said “Alright let me try one!” She started getting them after that, including her PB spottie. Steady action drifting 6-12 ft of water, finished with 32 between us. Fun day. E5198A16-BCEF-4960-8A76-83FC288EEFE0.jpeg

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of crank bait where you two using? Thanks for the report!

She was using an Azuma brand, I had a Berkley Frittside(Both from TW). 1st time in the water for both baits. For me , the important thing is the depth rating. Much of the back bay is very flat, I can drift a few hundred yards and the depth may only change 1 ft. As long as the bait is staying within a foot or two of the bottom, brand/color don’t matter so much in my experience. A 3-4” swimbait on an underspin produces well back there as well.

Thank you very much for that info! I have seen people using freshwater lures and its always hard to stray away from what you know works (at least for myself). Time to try something new and learn a thing or two in the process. Thank you again!

Better than average for me. In my younger days I would launch from Shelter Island and fish up there. More variety, bigger fish, but lots of traffic. Different story south of the bridge. We were the only boat out fishing south of the Cays. It was basically a saltwater lake plugged with bass all to ourselves.
