Well, made the long drive to the spot last night a couple of hours before high tide in search for some grinner action during the grunion run. Preferred baits were HALF mackeral(roughly 6-8in chucks) and whole Bullet Tuna. I’m starting to enjoy these big bait bites...... Beach was super quiet other than the 2 guys fishing down the way that left early in the night and maybe a family or two having fun looking for grunion. Bait stealers were to a minimum last night for once. Light salad. High tide. Anyways. Cut to the chase, long story short. I’m standing there next to my rod looking at all of these grunion around and all of a sudden my clicker starts *SCREAMING*... Grabbed the rod, set the hook, tightened the drag, and once I did that I knew exactly what I had on my line. Sheer weight, and no matter what I did and how tight I put my drag this guy was not stopping. 100yrds out and he’s into my braid backing. Get him to shore and sure enough takes off yet again....3 or 4 times of that and my arms were dead. 35minute later. Landed. I could hardly give my buddy my rod let alone grab the fish hahahaha. Called it a night after that since that took the last bit of energy I had left for the day. Until next time..

Surf bats kick your butt more than you would think. 47" is on the large size but not massive. Biggest bat I heard of caught was 62"

I couldn’t even imagine. This thing was a pain and now I can completely understand why you guys don’t dig catching them before a grinner.

Late notice, but if you want some company this weekend I’m down. Probably heading out tonight and a couple times Sunday...somewhere.

Decided to go back out and use the rest of the bonito that I had in the freezer. Baits soaked for 10minutes before hooking into another fair sized ray. Than nada for another 2 hours. Still on the prowl for my golden ticket.
