Just got back from a 3 week trip to the West Fork of the Bitteroot, Rock Creek, and the Big Lost River in Idaho.

Some observations: nymph fishing produced much more fish than dry flies/terrestrials than previous trips. In fact I only got into a few decent bug hatches that produced more than a few fish landed. Tight line/euro-nymphing was the ticket for me although my cousin landed the biggest fish of the trip using a indicator setup (a 21” beast up on the Big Lost). My go to nymph ended up being a size 10 pats rubber legs with a huge tungsten bead and .025mm lead wire.
Overall it was a very productive trip with many 16” browns, rainbows, cutthroat, cut-bows, and prolific whitefish.
