Went bay hiking Saturday. Throwing big (7") topwater plugs and jerkbaits, trying to get lucky on a giant. Threw till my arms fell off( about 5 hours), did not get lucky.

During my hike I saw a big leopard swim by following the shore. I looked at my phone to check the time, 10am. I thought, "I wonder if I came here tomorrow at 10am with a 20lb test rod, if she would be here again?"

I put a bait out and 7:30am and started throwing lures to kill time. At about 10:30am the clicker moved.......

Ended up with 3 halis, 2 vines, 1 bone, and 8 spotties while I waited.

Swimbaits, grubs, and spinnerbaits. Nothing on the hard baits.

Thats a solid day on the bay! i was out today on the other side. Much slower, but was trying to target shallow halibut.

I have seen plenty of worse pics posted on SDFish, which is a (mostly) fishing website, not a photography website.

Getting great pics takes some work along with some time invested post processing.. Catching great fish can take even more work and time investment to achieve.

A great fish and catch there!

I'd rather have the great catch than the great pic.

I have a feeling that you’re about to find out. Probably sooner than later if I had to guess.

It happens every day. Maybe not to everyone who tries, but I am sure big wake baits, spooks, surface plastic etc take good fish every single day in our back bays and even beyond. Good luck with getting photos, video etc though. Surprised to see it in print. Some of those folks really have it dialed in, and those folk don't talk much. I know very well how you feel about our local inshore fishing, but we have huge niche sections never openly talked about openly by anyone. Hell, I couldn't convince a yellowtail joton that we had Greenland halibut here, WHILE I WAS LIFTING ONE IN EACH HAND. Just saying.. personally, I wonder how many guys were working swordfish here offshore for years before social media caught on... Decades maybe?

I’m not even trying to be secretive. Anyone can fish with me anytime they want. I’m just tried of arguing with kooks online about fishing.

6-9” lures still work, not as good as they used to but,…until a few years ago, I threw nothing but 6-7” lures. Almost ever big bay fish Ive ever caught was on a 6-7” lure.

One of my old pb halis was caught on a 9” swimbait. I once got into a hot bonefish bite using 3/4oz bass jigs with a bulky 8” creature bait on the back. Thats a 9” lure, the bonefish were all over it.

Sometimes its best to ignore the dink bite, and see what else is there.

I threw all kinds of perfect corvina lures last weekend and didnt get touched. You know what I caught all my vines on,… a 1979 brown rubber skirt bass jig that my grandpa gave me 30 years ago.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Always good to learn a new way. I was always under the impression that vina hit on topwater only during the spring and summer mainly. Thats wild about the bonefish!
