Ok, so I made a post about this before and a lot of people seem intrested. Well, today I got the cannon portion built, I just need the frame work for the legs.

So here is a break down of parts used:
3" ABS pipe cut 3 feet long
3" pvc cap, drilled for tire valve
Metal stem tire valve with screw down bolt
    3" x 1-1/2" reducer coupling abs
    1-1/2 return sweep abs
    2 1-1/2x1-1/4 mip
    1-1/4 threaded ball valve
    7' ABS 1-1/2 barrel

So the frame work will be made out of 3/4 pvc and then I will paint the cannon all one color. Here are some pictures from today, hopefully the frame work will be done by the weekend.
I will post a video of the initial testing as well.

    Enjoy

Just curious but can you use a bait caster with this set up? What if you get a backlash your rod will go flying!

What if you took the spool of your reel and pointed it up like a spinning reel and then put it back on after the launch?:bored: You would have to hold the frame but it might work. Lol

I know why you couldn't just "free hand thumb it" so to speak?

So it will be used for a spinning reel, however I see a lot of cheap line getting destroyed to try this with a penn reel. I plan on finding a way to make it work. The issue with pointing it up, I have a full frame 6/0.

We have thought about clipping the line after launching to a static line on the reel as well. I've seen that on videos where guys are getting spooled on Marlins

Would it only work with frozen chunks? I just picture a chum mist with anything besides frozen

    Amazing work

I found these videos on how to make the ball valve open quicker. He also has one with an electric solenoid valve.

    i JUST MADE ONE ALSO!!!
mine is a straight line with a 1.5 inch barrel. I use a bike pump for the pressure. I will post pictures too. Haven't had a chance to test it with weighted ice yet.

Awesome!!!! I had most of the pipe in my truck, hence the large design. I can't wait to see your build, I think I might make some mock dummy's to shoot in town with line to try it out

How about using those water balloon launchers I see people using at the beach they seem to launch water balloons a long ways.

I would think when launching you need to have your line tight - otherwise it will snap with that kind of force.

I while ago I had thought of a wrist rocket - but that might not be enough power to go further than a regular cast.

Check it out. I also made ice blanks to test out at a local field. Added weights to compensate for what it'd be like with actual bait and sinkers. 20170512_192724.jpg 20170512_192747.jpg 20170512_192711.jpg

That's rad!!! The only thing I might add is pvc glue doesn't do well with abs. Just keep that in mind.
