Has anyone here ever been issued a citation for not having barbless hooks?

Every year guys get them. The DNR cops will dress in plain clothes and sneak up on you. Not worth it.

A barb is un necessary. Haven't used one in over ten years. Give it a try. You might be surprised how few fish you lose as long as you keep a constant bend in the rod. Its much easier to release the fish so you can get back in the water faster.

Never got one but checked a few times a year.. pinch them down good with pliers then double check by running some cloth over them. If the barb catches the cloth.. pinch them some more. I have heard the fine is 260???

I was checked last year and it’s not fun. I was in compliance but still nerve racking. They only check the hook they see that you have in the water and not all your tackle.
“Don’t throw your money in the ditch and pitch” I just made that up but I’m staying with it. Shirts and hats coming out soon lol

I have Barrett only boxes, both terminal and hard baits. All the hooks are in compliance, this way you never need to worry about forgetting to bend a barb.

    You'll only forget once
Do the math, if you are using a $200 set up and the fine is $260 hmmmm Davey Jones Locker with it. "It slipped out of my hands Sir/Mamm....."

Where does barbless apply here in San Diego? Just Barrett?

I can't recall another. There is a small park pond in Ramona (Dos Picos) that has signs that say hooks must be barbless, but I don't think it is enforced.

Yep...much cheaper to spend $15 on barbless hooks and put together a Barrett box.

It could be worse guys, next year I'm hearing it's going to be line-less hooks only. We are going to have to go noodling for our bass. lmao

I find it much easier to comply with the rules and have a stress free ticket free day.
I keep a Barrett box and don't even think about it. If you think you loose a lot of fish barbless your wrong.

If you experience a wide open bite at Barrett you will not be bummed that your hooks are barbless. You will actually catch quite a few more fish because of it, especially if you are fishing hardbaits. I normally just crimp the stock hooks and buy nicer hooks to replace for elsewhere.

The only rod you have to worry about is the one in your hand you are fishing with.

Any other rod not being fished or was not seen with you fishing it is not an issue. I asked a ton of questions a few years back when the patrol came up on me and my son. And yes, they are cheaters as well. They wear normal T-shirts with a star sewed on in the same exact color of the shirt and many times its covered by a light wind breaker jacket... some even take rods with them... I believe there were several complaints about that to the DFG and they stopped? my guess is they said they stopped....They'll be out in force tomorrow for opening day or opening week.

Dont be caught being stupid! Its only a fish... keep that in mind when thinking about using barbed hooks.. the fine is hefty.

All your lures in your box can have barbs until fished. Don't go crushing down on all the barbs on every lure you are taking. Take pliers and do it as you change up. I have found I end up fishing with 3 maybe 4 different baits all day...

Just don't get caught up in a frenzy and forget. I almost did that so after that it is strictly ALL barbless in my box. If it is with me at Barrett it is 100% barbless, pull it out and fish it. Don't even have to think about it.
