I caught my first Barracuda off the imperial beach pier today. Does anyone know if the legal size come in that close or is it a fluke that I caught one at all?

They’re definitely around on occasion but that one looks pretty short.

28" is legal size....Like Carter says that one's a short. As far as being possible to catch a legal cuda there I'd say yes it's possible....but not common. I've caught legal size cuda several times fishing from shore inside Mission Bay

The cuda have been thick in San Diego bay the last month, I've been catching them like crazy, small ones. I caught a couple legals off OB pier a few years ago during the end of the bonito run. Most from shore or pier are small size. Surprises you when you hook a nice one lol

I had a sliding rig set up with a live smelt and it was definitely not my target. I was really hoping for a thresher to come along and pick him up lol. But it was def fun.

Not a typical pier catch, early spring usually they’ll get a tad active around OB pier, haven’t heard of many down in Imperial Beach tho. Nice lil snotstick!
