    Hey All,
Hit South Shores this morning to see how the bearings swap in my Torium worked installed the ABEC11's replacing the factory ones. Picked up a good extra 25 to 30 yards. Good easy upgrade.
The reason for the post is I was soaking bait while practicing and I hooked 4 Pelagic Ray's in an hour. For you newcomers they have a longer whip like tail and can be lethal if you are stung. That long tail makes them very dangerous to handle, even for those in the know. If you arent sure of what type of ray you have caught and see a long whip tail on it just cut your leader to be safe, especially if you have youngsters around. Somebodies little kid, about 4 years old, ran up on me while I was unhooking one, thank God I had that tail firmly trapped under my boot. I explained, well kinda reprimanded his folks, about the dangers of letting a little one like that run up on an unknown situation. Ok getting down off my soap box here. The water is warm and the nasties are moving in, please be careful everybody. I've seen first hand what it can do to someone whose been hit with that barb it's not pretty.
Be safe and tight lines to all
    Bear

I warn who I can... That kid's life was straight up in danger there, glad you're the one who got run up on. How big were the pelagics? Donkey size or fun size?

On the fly rod, you Sir are a true diehard that's no easy feat. Tried that once and on my back cast managed to pierce my ear. Cut the fly off still in my ear, picked up my bait caster setup, told my brother where he could stow that fly rod and went upon my way.

Besides pelagic rays, what are some other “nasties” that might move in during the warm weather?

Diamond rays are around all the time. Several large sharks move into our local waters if water temperatures are high enough. The most dangerous are probably dusky and hammerhead sharks. I think hammers don't show up most years, I am not sure about the dusky sharks, so few are landed. Probably a lot more dangerous if you are chumming .

Well those slimy *** Morays tend to come out of their rocky homes to play a bit more, they've got some nasty dentures on them. Like Coach said if you are chumming its bound to bring in the grinners

Good post, great info. I thought I'd post a image from google just to reinforce what you said and in case some people won't look it up.
