I've got a Calstar rod that I had in the bed of my truck for the day that was bent a little bit so it would fit. It wasn't really hot or anything, but it seems the spine of the rod is now changed. It has a slight bend to the right and I can feel it when I pull on the rod. Any solutions or do I just cope with it?

I don't know but maybe sandwich between two splints and let it set for a while?

I'd say just bend the handle of your reel to the left so it evens everything out. Boom, problem solved.

The spine can be found when the rod/blank is under load. It is unlikely the spine of the blank changed just the straightness of the blank when it is not loaded up. It should pull the same under load. However, depending on the severity of the bend it might cast differently. Same thing happens if you lean a rod tip against the wall for an extended period of time.

I know when it was wrapped it was spined properly and I've used the rod to plenty of fish to prove it, but now it's got a decent curve to it and when under pressure the rod twists as if it was spined backwards or something. No issues with casting though. I'm thinking maybe if I clamp on the reel slightly crooked it will help?

The spine wouldn't really have moved, but you've weakened the fibers of the blank by keeping it bent for a prolonged period.

There's nothing you can really do about that. The damage is done. It probably won't cause any issues for you, but the rod is no longer as strong as it was in that section.

Rods cannot be stored bent. Not in a corner, not in a confined space, not in a cramped rod locker. Store them flat and straight or you'll screw them up.

Don’t think the spine would change. The spine is where the fiber glass wrap overlaps all the others. Possible the guides drifted off. That’s happened to me numerous times.

That's entirely possible too. Any fix to that other than rewrapping?

What causes the guides to do that?
