Alright fellows, I will be in SD next week and can fish maybe 3-4 times in Mission or on the beach for an hour or so at a time. I'm bringing all my gear, what would be my best bet to maximize my time. Setup, location, thanks!!

The night bite seems to be hot right now. I would hit either bay around 6pm or later.

You'll be able to catch fish at all times. Certain fish are after dark, certain fish are all day, and certain fish will jump in front of you sticking up their middle fin and try to temp you to target them.

The all around bait I'd have to say is a shallow diving crank. Next in line will be a fluke. Dropshotting the fluke will almost always get you halibut, but you should have your hands full with bass too. 7' rod medium or med/hvy 8-17#. Bring some boots and a headlamp if you fish after dark.

If you haven't fished MB from the shore much I'd drop shot gulp for your best odds.
Grass beds from shore are very productive, but can be difficult if not weedless and not familiar with them.

Small bait will give you more fish but smaller size, target larger bass with 5-6" flukes. No true need for gulp, but some days scent is definitely advantageous.

Generally speaking, I'd fish rocks at higher tides and sandy beaches on the lower tides.

Also, fish more spots as opposed to more baits in one spot. Move around!...even in an hour. Best luck.

Yeah definitely pick up some flukes to drop shot and texas rig a curly tail grub. If all else fails just go to mission jetty and use a cane pole with market shrimp.

I know this is the bay forum, but I fished for an hour or so on Mission Beach and caught two and lost two, great day overall! Will fish the bay tonight possibly, and the next couple days for sure. Good to back in SD fishing for a few days, I miss it!

Wherever there's fish! Jk, I'll say MB for general info over SD Bay, and I'll say one of the two islands is hot for somewhat specific. Coordinates cost money ;) jk
