Per Creek it matters who the sitting president is.

I took that to heart and started looking into the different candidates for the upcoming election.

What are your thoughts on Bill and does he have a chance?

I’m just tired of never ending taxes, Democrats’ socialism, and the increases in our national debt. These are my main concerns.

    What are yours?

    (1) Campaign finance reform, (especially “dark money” from anonymous fat cats and corporations)
    (2) The environment.

Weld’s libertarian leanings don’t appeal to me personally and I don’t think he has much of a chance – unless DJT really screws up between now and next fall. I imagine the DJT handlers and other RNC king makers will fight tooth and nail to minimize Weld’s entry in the race.

There was some talk of MD governor Hogan and SC’s Sanford jumping in too, but I don’t know what the latest is on that. OH’s Kasich could be an interesting wildcard.

Oh, and there’s this in today’s paper -- from a (R) no less:

We need someone who could stand up, look the president in the eye and say: “Enough, sir. We’ve had enough of your indecency. We’ve had enough of your lies, your bullying, your cruelty, enough of your insults, your daily drama, your incitement, enough of the danger you place this country in every single day. We don’t want any of this anymore, and the country certainly can’t stand four more years of it.”

What Democrats’ “socialism” are you referring to?

If any of those guys survive until the primaries begin, then best of luck to them. I don't see any primary going against Trump. Good for you for some research. Ultimately it will be a binary choice.

Oh man, Weld is such a refreshing find. I’m such a mental midget for thinking all Republicans are the same under Trump rule.

Thank you lord and hallelujah! I know what I’m gonna be doing.

salt water guy : Not into Democrats mandatory healthcare, student debt forgiveness, and free college tuition for all just to name a few.

kciuchta Still plenty of time left.

I remembered my high school government teacher telling the students to get involved with campaigns at least once in their lifetime just to experience it. I never had any interest. This might as well be that one time. Win or lose at least I took actions within my control.

    Thanks SDFish lounge.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if you meant existing socialism such as Social Security, Medicare, subsidies for agriculture, energy sectors, etc -- or what's being proposed by some of the candidates.

I agree with you about getting involved. Leading up to the 2016 Prez election, I made a point of attending meetings of both the Dem and Repub clubs here in the La Mesa area. Much learned and observed with interesting Q & A's. I intend to volunteer once we get closer to Nov 2020.

I think Trump has the inside track right now, but with our current system it will be a two person race.
