Boat mostly clipped gills immediately. I made sure my gunny sack was bathed in water from time to time until leaving the boat. Turned out fine, a little mushy, but not too bad. The grill firms them up anyways.

I fished the Dolphin last year. They advertise RSW ....BUT they don’t like to use it on 1/2 day trips which is a low down dirty shame......Not only is it false advertising but not good for the local species that need to be slapped on ice!

I've never seen a half day use a RSW. I think they use it so infrequently that it's not setup for use unless they know they have a full day charter.

Bonito is probably the only fish locally that needs it. Tuna is pretty infrequent and YT is nice to get those in RSW, but it isn't detrimental if they aren't as long as you spray water on them every so often.

That’s why people think Bonito is not good table fare.......Shame

I suggest if going on Dolphin again, bring an ice block for your gunny sack......It’ll help big time. Or I’ve been experimenting with freezing 1 gallon ziplock bags with water. 3 or 4 of those should work.....

I think if you are doing sashimi it's a significant difference in firmness if you can ice faster. For the grill, it's not as necessary as it firms quickly in heat. The pulled gills removed most of the fishiness, but the lack of optimum coldness made it mushier quicker.

I know for a fact I seen one in the surf last week, going very fast on top of a wave with the sun back lit so I could see the tail. Knowing that confirms I seen one airborne in the surf last year too. Im chucking the same thing I use to catch them on in the bays, but have never caught one in the surf. I would love to though.

The striped fish he was referring to could have been bonefish. I saw a couple caught off OB pier a few weeks back and it had a near identical pattern to a striper. They sometimes travel in big schools like that.

Not a bonefish lol, probably mullet. Most of the bonefish we have here get as big as mackerel.

You may be correct. But most of the ones I saw were in the range of ~10 to ~15 inches.
