I imagine if you brought a bow to the beach people might freak out,...., a lot.

I would be worried I would get shot by the police bringing a bow to the beach! Cali is not a Gun Weapon friendly state!

If you want to change it up a bit, get one of those throwing spears and chase after the corbina. It's much harder than bow fishing but it is definitely legal. OLOEY-2pcs-Per-Bag-Fishing-90cm-Spear-3-Prong-Spearhead-Fork-Harpoon-Tip-with-Barbs-Diving.jpg

Bring a spear gun ? They are legal to use. Accomplish the same goal I would think. Keep a mask around your neck just to look official, and maybe a wetsuit.

If you use a spear you have to be using a mask and have your face in the water , actual wording , free floating or swimming , have seen citations given for standing up spearing at the lagoon mouth at Torrey Pines . It was also legal to be on the lagoon side at the time . I used to bow fish at IB pier and in P. B. as well as Torrey Pines but have not pursued it in a long time . Each city has its ordinances and goes by them even though the DFW rules say it is ok . I believe if I where going to try it I would give the City Life Guards a call and ask where it is OK if at all . Also a quick call to Torrey Pines as well if they still allow it . The few MPA Areas that allow fishing are specific to hook and line shore based with the exception of Swami's where you can dive and spear WSB . Good Luck it will be interesting to hear what you find out . WR

I've harvested a lot of corbina in the 45 yrs I've lived in MB with a Hawaiian Sling. Water less than knee deep....and the sling never really leaves your possession. City lifeguards have told me to beat it MANY times over the years. As far as throwing a spear or shooting a bow....good luck with that. Even if you're sure you don't pose a hazard to yourself or someone else....the lifeguards aren't as confident as you are. If in doubt the easiest thing for the lifeguards is to tell you to leave.

If you do give it a shot, don't kill any more corbina than you need. Those trophy 20+ inchers are few and far between

I could only imagine a women screaming at the top of her lungs while running yelling about some guy trying to kill her children! The resulting mass quick response team arrival and following news coverage would certainly make it on CNN.

Completely legal. Need to be 50’ or something away from bystanders. I know a guy who does well with his bow in the surf. Early mornings and slow days on the beach will be your best bet. He’s offered to bring his backup bow for me to try but haven’t taken him up on it. Doesn’t hurt to check in with the lifeguards to make them aware of what you are up to.

NEVER fire a speargun out of the water.

I would imagine it’s the same type of bow they use for carp back home, with a little reel attached to it? Kinda feel like a Jeff Foxworthy joke doing that in say La Jolla..

If you go to a surfing destantion to shoot fish, you might be a redneck.
