    Hit Cardiff at sunset for an hour. Low tide but had a new rod and reel and wanted to try somewhere I had never been. Right away got a halibut! Then got this big ray. Is it a butterfly ray? Then got a corbina. All on an LC. What doesn’t that thing catch?

    I’m trying to catch fish like you, so I went with the ugly stick 9’ and the Penn Battle 2 4000. Just was out there trying to cast it and get used to it. Going to take a little time. 7’-9’ is a big difference.

    Nice job on the crank bait. The LC does catch a lot (including rocks and leafy greens LOL). A little unusual for a butterfly to hit it, but I’ve seen it before. Not sure what they are thinking.
    Sounds like you’re figuring it out and having some fun. That’s what its all about! Keep at ‘em!

    Did better than I did today! Fished Encinitas and got skunked! Lots of sand crabs but nothing biting on crabs,squid or Camo worms...

    1) you found sand crabs?
    2) no bites on them?
    3) no bites on gulp or squid?

    You were aiming West when you casted, yes? LOL

    Nice! I got a butterfly ray on a LC in the surf once. Would love to see underwater footage of how it happened.

    Watched a pelagic ray assassinate a butterfly ray once... Brutal process

    I believe every ray I've caught on a jerkbait was snagged, but had a friend tell me he hooked a batray in the mouth

    I believe it. I was fishing on my kayak off of ocean beach last summer and was burning in my live Mack and ended up catching a 40# batray. Was so stoked it was a yellow or wsb until it started jumping.

    Same on all the ray catches. They're aggressive sometimes
    that sounds cool as hell to watch, wish there was more footage of ray behavior like that

    They've only ever pulled like trucks for me and then suction cup to the bottom.

    Ive caught butterfly and thornback rays on live rigged smelt before. They are opportunistic.
