Cats were ON.. threw back five that were too big, five to seven lb. Think I ended with over 40 cats total, probably 2/3 going 20 oz or bigger, the mini me fisher-girl ended with 9 I think. Kept the gut hooked ones and threw back everything else, including a few stunted LMB and a pond king carp. Thing was shorter than my last 9lb class job, with the belly of a fish twice the size, so maybe fifteen lb or so (?). This pond, everyone knows about. I figured it would have stunted tilapia and bass like the other one.. it did, but the tilapia were different: a darker, shorter mix of whatever genetics.. kept a couple for the homies and kept casting bread when I caught the pond king, sorry about the pix, mud, blood and scales were flying everywhere, fish seemed to swim off fine though. Wife called and told me she was taking extra work and asking when I was getting home.. called it early afternoon and drove back. The cats almost all came from water north of Brawley, even got some footage of a couple I pulled out of a drain. Been spending more time in the drains, and Mogambo 's hood , so far it is paying off. Anyone headed out there any time soon in daylight, hmu in PM's for a little intel. You may need it. Was wishing RBATom would have stopped by to pull on a few, or could have had scisports , Roncador , geofish , Aquaholic (who I can apparently not tag any more, frown), Fat Spottie, Tommy Chang, DogDudeDrone , RomanCastro , kyle12345 or any of my buddies with me, the grade was just awesome last night and this morning. Doesn't happen every trip, when it does, you just have to appreciate. Five species day in so cal? I will take it. Another day in paradise, minus a couple sunburns.. lol.. will update with a cooler shot when I get back from buying Aloe vera... Hahaha

Damn finally kicking up. I may head out there next Saturday. Need something to break this horrific skunk streak.

I know nothing of that pond.

Great session, great report, and great photos. There’s two ponds north of the one with stunted bass but at a lower elevation. They have the same problem. I wrote a weekly outdoors column for the local newspaper for seven years explaining what a great canal fishery we had and giving tips on how to catch the various species but it’s a very liberal paper and the sports editor didn’t think hunting and fishing articles belonged in the sports section much less their newspaper so they fired me. A lot more people fished the canals back then. Now, not so much. It’s a shame the locals don’t realize what a great resource is available to them. Two wardens cover the valley. One in Brawley and a lieutenant in Holtville. They are much friendlier than the ones I have encountered elsewhere. Do they ever check you?

You are the IV man, love the pic’s brings me back to the good ole days, I tried some canal fishing some 30 years ago and didn’t catch anything but I told my wife who thought I was nuts that at the right time I bet there would be fish in those canals, so thanks now I can show her that if you know what your doing you can catch fish in those canals, I still can’t believe the catches you come up with. Thanks
