First, I suck at transferring phone photos to my laptop. I got one good one out of it, so here he is. All tuckered out from his swim.

Blows me away that for whatever reason, he chose to start screaming while we were on the other side of the river. Maybe he figured "its do or die" time. I dont know. I could sit here for hours wondering if he knew to scream to us that he needed help. Either way, Werf and his daughter and I were there for him. I love doing cool stuff.. and this was pretty cool. Little guy had moss all over his legs. Shower water was just as brackish as the SD River for the first fifteen seconds. His hair is somewhat sparse, and he has a small red bump on his noggin. I cant believe something didnt eat him out there.

Picked up an appt for him to see our vet on Monday. So the plan is to take some time off work to get it all done. Full physical.. bloods, urine, fecal, flea injection, de-worming, etc. All of it. We're gonna help this little kid get to 100% and make sure that his life comes first in ours. I cant evem imagine what some of you may be thinking about me. "What a puzzy" comes to mind.. but I dont care. I love animals - especially cats. And I got a great one.. or, he got a great one. Glad he's here to share our home. Its his home now. Thanks again, Werf.. that was huge.

Good on you Mike. Mine showed up at the back door starving about 5 years ago.....he's still here. I like cats and dogs a helluva lot better than most people. They never lie to you, Give them a safe place and food to eat and they're good.

    Such an honor!

My last cat I rescued from an old shed. She was ferrell! Had to keep her in a cage for a week. Turned out to be a great cat.

That was one of the craziest damn things I have ever seen.. that kitten couldn't have weighed half a pound, crossing an easy 20 yards of liquid terrain and open water, I was damn sure I was going to witness a drowning any second... Any second... Good on you, Creek , of it had been me and the kiddo... Well . Prefer not to think of that... Good on you man.. made the kid's day too

Swimming.. in slight downstream current probably about 35-40'. With the standing and matted reeds, probably about 60' total. He had been bashing through the reeds for several minutes. We knew he was there, but we just couldnt see him. Then we saw portions of intermittent white busting through the last of the standing reeds. Once he broke free of the standing reeds, it was all about negotiating the matted ones. Every other step was dry.. and every other step he'd fall through and end up having to push himself back up. It was here that I couldnt take it anymore and took off downstream under the bridges to look for a way over to get him. Couldnt find one, so I walked back to Werf and his daughter. The meowing was pretty loud on the walk back - alot louder than it had been. I walk under the corner of the bridge and there he is standing (trembling) on the side of the bank. I just died.

I'm no good at determining a cats sex when they're this young. So here's what we got.. if its a girl, its going to be Katy (for my mom - today is her 1st anniversary of being gone).. and if its a boy, we're going with Little (little for now) Rocky because clearly, he's a fighter.

Thats pretty darned awesome dude. I've only had dogs in the house the last ten years or so, but I grew up around 6+ cats, all of which were street rescues. That one'll be with you for a long long time. And will probably want to follow you just about anywhere.

The kitty we found in the car engine was so small that we named her "little one."
She was about the size of my wife's shoe when we found her.
