Don't craws get big in dirty, nasty water? Isn't that what makes them get big? Am I mistaken?

Start the hunt.. You know what to look for. Tons of areas around La Mesa and Spring Valley. Grew up mooching craws for bait in the drains, and eating the big ones.. Ain't dead yet...

Same with lobster. The nastier the water the bigger the bugs.

As stated before they’re all around small creeks, but be careful I stopped getting them when I came home with a bad case of POISEN OAK, I can still see the scar on my arm it wasn’t fun.

I know there's a small creek that connects with the SD river around Mission Trials but from what i read you're not allows to removes anything from the water/area. I'll have to look into that again but that was what i remember reading.

Which us why I'm here looking for some more specific/exact spots that I can legally harvest these crawfish.

Here's a pic of my last crawfish boil i had, ofc i order them online. Maybe the picture will convince some ppl to give up some info Screenshot_20190524-085139_Gallery.jpg

Hate to say, doubt you'll have many takers on that. Probably have to put in the hours and find spots you can harvest once a year to get you a couple boils like that. Really, there is simply not enough water here to support anywhere near that level of harvest on any sort of scale...

OR.......you could drive down to Imperial Valley. We have 3,000 miles of canals and drains full of crawdads. I like to use bacon as bait. Thread it on a piece of baling wire and wire it into the crawdad trap.

Yep.. Loads of craws in the IV. I have seldom targeted them there tho. I know that one place I fish must have a few giant ones, the coons leave giant claws on the shore there

Yes you are allowed to legally take crawfish (referred to as "crayfish" in the DFG guidlines) anytime throughout the year. A couple of years back I decided to make a few pots out of chicken wire/hardware cloth and experiment with baits and bait holders. It all got very expensive so I'd recommend buying the traditional minnow/crawfish traps and save yourself the time, money and effort.

In case anyone gives you grief, the rules say:

5.35. CRAYFISH. (a) Open season: All year, except for closures listed in subsection (d) of this Section. (b) Limit: No limit. (c) Methods of take: Crayfish may be taken only by hand, hook and line, dip net or with traps not over three feet in greatest dimension. Any other species taken shall be returned to the water immediately. Traps need not be closely attended. (d) Closures for Protection of Shasta Crayfish: Rock Creek (in the Hat Creek Drainage in Shasta County), Fall River upstream of Spring Creek Bridge, Lava Creek, Tule River and all connected waters upstream of Little Tule River, Sucker Springs Creek, Crystal Lake, Rising River and Rising River Lake are closed to take and possession of crayfish. (See Section 4.30 for prohibition against crayfish use for bait in sections of the Pit River). (e) The season closures in Chapter 3 (District Trout and Salmon Special Regulations) do not apply to crayfish fishing with methods other than hook and line (see sections 7.00 and 7.50(a)(3)).
