Baja is firing with big YT!

After driving 14 hours down from San Diego it felt good to get in the water. The first day I went for species and ended up getting a large whitefish, parrot, trigger, few firecracker YT, and a small grouper.

My buddies landed a 31# and 42# YT that day...and I saw none of that action. Well, I did help land the 42# which was the education I needed unknowingly for day two.

After waiting and waiting on the second day I decided to hit the grouper spot and said screw the YT this trip...then this 34.5# decided to cruise on by right next to the rocks solo...

I had my 100cm with a flopper and reel and had to make the decision...let it go or take it on the most ideal setup. I was pretty much a marksman this trip hitting everything where I wanted so I figured...time to shoot for the gill plate. Luckily, I hit it and the next 6 minutes were the most nerve-racking of my short spearfishing career. Dealing with reel line is annoying AF haha.

I just thought I'd share this little adventure. I think I'll be heading to the Bay of LA in a few weeks...I'm addicted to the baja life :p
