A little overdue, but booked a private charter on the Pronto last Friday for a Full Day trip, 12 guys, out of Oceanside targeting the elusive bluefin. Good times, music was blasting, beers were plentiful, foamers and boils everywhere. One problem, bluefin being bluefin and the lack of bites. We must've run into 15 schools. Our group connected with maybe 5 of them, landed 1. Threw everything at them, stickbait, irons, snipers, live bait. The one landed was in live bait. Tough for sure and will test anyone's will for this wonderful sport. I personally was skunked, and had the blues from these bluefin for the next couple days. Wife noticed my "blues" and asked for some fish tacos since I couldn't come through last week... YES MA'AM. Hopped on a 3/4 day trip on the Chubasco to get some rockfish and bass- checked in and Cap Dave said we're going offshore?! If I would've known, I would've come more prepared. All I had was a couple baitcasters and heaviest gear was Fathom 25NLD2 with 40 pound line. Second stop, got my first bluefin - and first taste of bluefin heart. Got it on flyline, another guy caught one on a colt sniper. Only 2 caught for the boat in total. Similar conditions and results as last Friday. Lots of fish, just gotta figure out how to hook em. Guess the tuna gods threw me a bone today. Sashimi time. Thanks to Ernie, Cap Dave, Andrew, Jacob, and Nacho. Keep up the the great work guys.
