"None of that matters because the climate hysteria movement is not about science. If it were about science, it would be led by scientists rather than by politicians and a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left.”

    Michael Knowles

Fox News strikes again… (some of this thread’s comments sound remarkably similar. I guess you gotta get your talking points somewhere!)

BTW, I have a nephew with Aspergers. Very bright, kind young man and a gifted singer/song writer to boot. Proud to be his uncle...

its dismaying to see so many people vehemently against the idea that we could be affecting the climate, and refusing to even look at evidence to the contrary. its especially upsetting when it's people who claim to care about nature and the wilderness. the world as we know it is changing, and not for the better. but our political system has become so polarized that people will shoot themselves in the foot, simply because their opponents said not to

Here we go. I have two options here.. I'm going with option 2.. I said it was a "disability of sorts" because I had no clue what the issue was supposed to be.. I only know that the fake news was fully engaged with her problem/deficit - whatever it goes down easiest with - and they were using it to tug at the heartstrings of Democrats and treehuggers everywhere. I will give the UN and Dems this.. there's no way anyone will be able to say anything about her or her speech for fear of being labeled any number of negative things.

its interesting how you immediately and indiscriminately label what you don't agree with as "fake news", effectively insulating yourself from even considering the accuracy of your own point of view

A lot of it is fake news and why the hell would someone with more life experience listen to a child about anything. They Just spew whatever they have been indoctrinated with. They are children. I don't care if they have a disability or not they have zero life experience. I thought the AGW movement was one of science. Yet they need to march children around as pawns. Literally scaring the crap out of them to the point they think we are going to be dead in 12 years.
Why not march around touting there prophecies that have came true instead of tourmenting children. Oh wait non of them have. The Maldives were supposed to be under water so was part of New York. Hasn't happened. We were supposed to be dead of starvation decades ago. According to Al Gore the ice caps were supposed to be melted 6 years ago. Hasn't happened. Now the world is going to end in 12 years if we don't destroy capitalism. The AGW movement is one that has been hijacked by the socialist and those in government seeking more control and tax revenue.

Fake News is a term the President has coined. In fairness to you, I actually agree with many of things I see on CNN and PMSNBC, just not politics.

Okay.. so back to where I was headed with you.. Since you told us you have autism - which I assume means you know where she's coming from - would you be willing to engage with everyone here about what autism really is and help dispel some of the unknown about it? And I know you cant answer this but, I'm wondering why a 16 yr old autistic with far left-reaching parents was invited to the UN to speak about climate change and not a fair, impartial legit scientist.

See now you're just getting emotional. you're the result of a generation that punished ignorance as failure, rather than using it as a learning opportunity, and so you've been conditioned to be afraid to admit you're wrong. that fear turns to anger, and it clouds your judgment. its ok to admit you were wrong, and to try to learn from others, even if they may be less experienced than you, they can still have insights that can prove helpful

I'm angry that uneducated twits keep telling me how to live my life. They are the least scientific minds on earth constantly pushing a socialist agenda and not even realizing they are useful idiots. With all do respect you don't have a clue what you are talking about you are a mouthpiece. I would appreciate someone of your intelligence not attempting to give me a psychoanalysis. I ask you for evedince man is responsable for any of tgis and you yet to produce it all I get is socialist drivel from what I can only perceive as a useful idiot.

I had coin on 16. But I mean, I could say I was 16 and no one would know any better, so my question to him was useless. Who knows.. he might reply.

autism is a congenital condition that affects the way that someone's brain processes information. generally, autistic people struggle with understanding social cues and norms, and this generally leads them to be ostracized by the community on the grounds of being "weird". we tend to look at things objectively and methodically, and tend to intuitively grasp physical systems, like mechanics or electronics. we also (nearly universally) have what is termed a "special interest", which is exactly that. its a specific subject that we take an extreme interest in, learn a lot about, and retain a lot of information in. for example, my special interest is biology, specifically marine biology, and I know enough about the subject to hold conversations with Doctorates about their research. other traits of autistic people include "stimming" which consists of repetitive motions or sounds, to provide calming stimulus, echolalia, a compulsion to mimic sounds, sensory overload, a situation where the sheer volume and nature of stimuli one is exposed to becomes overwhelming and causes one to shut down, and a significant fondness for routines and procedures.

I don't know for sure, but I believe that Greta was invited to speak to the UN not to provide specific policy advice, or data on the climate situation, but rather as a demonstration of how meaningful this issue is to our generation. most, if not all of the people in the general assembly will be dead by the time this becomes a serious problem. so it takes different techniques to spur action than it does for more immediate threats. if you pay attention, the gist of her speech is "listen to the scientists, even if you don't like what they're saying". yes, her speech was more emotional than factual in nature. but emotional arguments are valid as well. before working to solve a problem, you first must make people agree that it is a problem that needs solving.

its difficult to explain how the fundamental way I have perceived and interpreted the world around me differs from someone else's fundamental life experience

cut me some slack, I'm also in class right now
