BBA8187A-8A0F-419E-9CA6-EA3EF898D047.jpeg Caught these 11-12 inchers today from the yak, near Zuniga jetty. Used dead shrimp chunks, and as always with this species, their buddies were well fed on stolen bait. Magic thread did help in at least getting these guys, definitely keeps the bait on longer, but the hookup rate is still minuscule. Now that I’m out in bigger water they’re bigger and stronger than my old wrasse hole in Mission bay, and the garibaldi are fatter and meaner too lol. I had 3 hooks bent and broken off today, never had that happen before. Now if i could only figure out where the sheepies are...

On ice .. very nice. My cousin and his buddy dive the Zuniga on a regular basis every winter during lobster season ( at night ) and he tells me that the jetty is chok full of very big Sculpin.. They actually made a night of just spearing them at one point, along with a few lobster. Anyway... I’m blabbing, but ya, along with your Wrasse, and jumbo Garabaldi , there are some Tank Sculpin to be had out there.

Those look great. The kelp beds outside the bay opposite Zuniga should have some sheeps

thanks, I’ll keep trying. I’ve had really bad luck at the kelp the few times I’ve tried.

Do you need base access to get to that jetty?

I haven’t been chased off yet, the only marked “off limits” thing I might have tried once or twice is the large dock off the island, and all I’ve found that to hold is bass. I keep a respectful distance from the shore of the island itself. I don’t think the jetty itself is off limits, it’s mostly under water. I could be wrong, but I’m definitely not the only one out there.

No way to access the jetty by foot. Even on base, plus according to Werf and many others, hear it’s a pretty sketch spot anyways (on a vessel/yak). Wouldn’t recommend getting too close to it as the MPs will be all over your nalgas if you do. But I know that spot YIELDS dammit.

no doubt it’s an area to be respected, gotta be aware of the current and position accordingly
