No bass in my last post eh? Well... Certainly one in this one! Took a new dude and his buddy to a ditch spot (hope it's ok to tag BILL NELSON here) to get his buddy on a couple fly fish. Mission accomplished, each of us caught a couple fish, super fun fishing out of a storm drain, essentially. Starts off with a dink for me, a tiny GS, then a small bluegill, I think?. Let the fly dudes take the hole for the most part, caught one bluegill in between their fish, but ended up tossing a weightless robo on a cheap EWG with the Cuban yo yo... About the third cast, I feel the right kind of bite. The rest is what it is. Interloper intercepted anyway... Fun stuff with good company. Thanks for coming out, post pix and hijack freely if you like, Bill. Much respect to you gentlemen...

Was a good time. Fun stuff. Probably would have gotten a couple more if we were a bit more stealthy

No way a bass that big was gonna survive in that spot

Thanks for sharing Coach. That poor bass. I only have my phone right now and looking at that photo and Is there a big hole in the side of the mouth on the bass? Looks like the fingers are all the way through holding the bass up. I am old and maybe I’m not seeing it right.
Anyway ditch fishing looks like fun and I’m still laughing that you said I can put my kayak across it and make a bridge. :)
    Tight lines

Yeah, I harvested him and gave him to my neighbor, I was more worried about dropping him back in there. He was ended humanely after the picture, he was getting worked over by the raccoons and birds of prey, looked like to me, and he had three hook holes in his mouth too, at least.

Yeah... A two pound bass magically appears in a hole fifteen feet across with an inch or two of water on each side for a couple hundred yards, in a spot in a creek section I have fished for more than thirty years and never seen a bass, not at three inches, not at three pounds

Not trying to argue with you, just trying to make sense of it...
You did mention you have seen a few recently..
If that was someones pet, lake murray is just as close as going through the trouble to put it in the ditch vs a real lake...
My speculation is that bass got there same way the bluegill did....
Few unlucky bass took a wrong turn...
It is what it is, I can care less.

Apparently you care enough to post. That creek had no bluegill until two years ago, it was all GS... But don't worry, I picked up the bullet weights, discarded plastics and hooks your people left behind, don't sweat it.

Been fishing the tiny ditch that a 2 lb bass wont survive in for 30 years, that the bg just showed up 2 years ago, for what????
My people didnt leave or lose a bunch of bullet weights, plastics, hooks, for one pet bass that was intentionally put in that hole as you put it...
    Just intrigued.....

Maybe the raccoon was going to eat the bass for later and dropped it off in the hole.
We have to look at all options here. lol

Hahaha.. yeah.. a hungry osprey just happened to drop it off at the right spot mid flight back to the nest. Pretty good aim for 300' at 25mph or whatever those things fly at. I am sure the bass fishing garbage that showed up within days of me spotting that guy in there were a hundred percent coincidence. Makes me wonder if there was only one they dropped in there. Oh wait, I know... That creek has the fastest growing, most athletic bass of all time. Having fished this creek for decades and never seen a bass of any kind, they migrated up there three miles from their nearest kin, jumping like salmon over rocks, threading the way in mere millimeters of water to arrive there, braving falls and stretches of hundreds of yards, leaping over 8 foot rocks from pool to pool to get there. Who knew bass were so amazing...

All I can say is that people don’t give bass enough credit for their ingenuity.
As for the trash ever heard of pack rats?
I believe that’s what happened there.
Anymore questions I’ll gladly give you the straight scoop. lol
