Hit dixon for the derby since it was gonna be way crowded over the weekend. Got there at 630, almost no permit line (Score!) Got my permit and headed to trout cove. It was pretty packed on the shore, with only a few boats, at least at first. First 3 casts I had 2 small trout on a yellow/orange minijig. They were sitting on the surface, jumping all out of the water. Bite paused, and when it came back, they wanted red/white small jigs fished deeper. Took awhile to figure that out, but once you did, it was easy limits. At around 10 it got packed, but the bite stayed hot till 11. Always love to fish the derbys. Highlight was probably someone using a gaff to get trout into their boat, mike long style. It took him average 5 tries to get each one. Was greeted by 2 park rangers a few minutes later. Stay safe and have fun guys. Will post some pics tonight.

    2.06. Use of Gaffs.
No person shall possess or use a gaff in inland waters, except that a gaff three feet or less in length may be used to land legal-sized fish only by anglers fishing from a boat in the Sacramento River main stem below Deschutes Road Bridge.

    did they change the rules?

No they didn't change the rules lol that's why I learned the hard way haha. The gaff only came out during trout season and when fishing for carp back then. I mean c'mon it's trout it's any size keep with a 5 limit at most lakes these things will die by the end of the season while temps warm, and holdovers ??? C'mon now hahaha. Carp = kill all, throw em away on the shoreline for most folks and with a BOW on top of that. If someone were to gaff a Largie that'll be a way way different story a big no no I can see peeps tripping on that all day. But as said the gaff came with me for kicks and giggles Meat shot or no these stockers don't go to waste for me. On top of that 100% of all SD lakes that does there annual trout stock has a big no no on catch and release on the trout.

Isn't Dixon a private lake with non DFW regs. I guess you could busted by the ranger but it is not a state enforceable offence. You are not going to get a ticket enforceable by the state you might get afine from the city. The CDW 2.06 gaff regs are not enforceable by the DFW at Dixon just as the regs regarding a state license are not enforceable.

I dont know about Dixon now because of its different status but I got checked at cuyamaca one year by DFW. He was only interested in checking state license. He did not even ask, or want to look when I asked, about the day permit.
