I had a chance to get out and fish this afternoon, so I hopped on the PM Dolphin trip. I hooked up on a short calico pretty quick after we made our first stop and just kept catching them, so many bites today and I lost track of how many I caught. They were even eating a Keitech that had the tail nipped off by a mackerel. I fished mostly 5 inch swim baits from Angler's Arsenal with some 4.8 inch Tennessee Shad colored Keitechs mixed in. They were smashing this color all day.

That being said, I only landed 1 legal but you shoulda seen me jumping for joy. I haven't had a fish pull drag off my Tranx 200 yet, it was the first.

I almost landed a legal barracuda too, it was pretty freaking big, but I snapped my $180 Ritual Angling rod trying to bounce it into the boat. Live and learn, don't try to bounce a big fish on your light gear.

The highlight of the day though was meeting Redjim. I recognized him from his pics up here on the forum and said what's up and spent the trip chatting with him. 5 star review, awesome guy, would fish with again.

Nice report, sounds fun! Shoot, trying to remember if that's the old Worm King brownbait pattern in the bait pic, that color brings back some good memories! Maybe a silvery belly on the WK?

I reached out to Tackle Warehouse about my rod and they said that it's covered under warranty, sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! This is why I buy everything from them, that and their incredible overnight shipping. And amazing prices.

I reached out to the manufacturer first and said "Hey I tried to bounce a cuda and the rod snapped like 2 or 3 feet down from the tip, is there any sort of warranty", their reply wasn't quite as kind and helpful as TW's :p

"Fishing a freshwater bass rod for barracuda on a half day boat and admittedly bouncing a fish doesn’t exactly qualify as a manufacturer defect. If you purchased the rod from Tackle Warehouse you can send it back with no questions asked, other wise I recommend fishing an inshore rod on half day excursions."

    Hmmm
What’s a full fledged snot stick weigh vs a pre-spawn LMB? Fresh vs salt has no bearing with this break.

I’d guess the issue would be with the height that the fish was physically lifted to clear the rail, esp if you were on the bow.

Yeah it's not like that cuda was heavy or anything, definitely just a mistake on my part. Plus technically, I was fishing for the small calico that were all over the place not the cuda!

Guy sounds like a turd though if I'm being honest. I think I'm gonna go with a different rod for my replacement. The 7'5 MH Major Craft MS1 has almost the exact same specs and it costs the same.

What are you throwing at them ?
Looks like that rod is lure rated at 3/16 - 5/8oz

I use that rod for 1/4-1/2 oz lead heads, it was my main spotty rod. Absolutely loved it, I had it paired with my crusty *** Tatula SV that I've slowly been destroying with saltwater exposure. In this specific situation though, it was a 3/8oz head with a 3 inch swim bait.

Good to see. The calico bite has been slow to come on this year. Good report and nice going.
