It's winter time for full day boats, things will start back up March 1st when rockfishing opens back up, and when the yellowtail and tuna bite pick up again.

Dolphin is a good boat. Can't go wrong with any of the half day boats. Full day boats are on off season currently. The San Diego will be online running full day trips to the Coronados march 13th, I haven't seen the start dates for the rest of the fleet yet but the will all be back running soon. Spring yellowtail at the islands will be the target this time of year and then they will start going offshore looking for tuna. From what I hear bluefin are about 30-40miles offshore right now, as soon as a good number of fish are within day trip range that will be the target for most of the boats.

I just got back from a half day on the dolphin. Fishing wasn’t exactly “lights out” but we had a good time. Bag full of perch in the fridge, couple beers on the trip home. I pulled in a handful of decent but not legal calicos, 2 sheepshead, 2 gophers and some perch. Had a blast. Boat wasn’t too crowded and Capt did a good job keeping it moving till we found the fish.

Squid strips were the jam for perch. I got everything else on mackerel chunks.

About 7 miles offshore right along the border. I’m not 100%. Far enough south for me to get the welcome to Mexico message on my phone. Ha. About 140 feet deep.

Figured I’d put a stamp on whether or not it’s worth goin out. Final answer is yes. Especially if you love fish tacos. End of the road for my catches.

Get your passport or go on a non passport required trip.

Just get out there man. I know you’ve been wanting to land monsters but hey... A little tug is better than no tug. 60 bucks for a half day. Not to mention you can stock your fridge and freezer. If you do well enough you can offset the cost with how much fish you bring home.

    Passport renewal + Card + Expedited Service = $200

But you only need to do this every 10years unless you're a minor
