Went to go try to catch some of the dinks in Evans Pond in Scripps this morning when I noticed all the dead and dying fish along the shore. Apparently something similar happened back in 2016 but I could not find any follow up story on it.

Something has Affected the Fish at Evans Pond 07/19/19

I filed a Mortality Report with Fish and Game so hopefully they can find out what's going on. It was a depressing sight to see.

Pretty sure that place is like some of the desert reservoirs, going through a summer fish kill if temperatures get above a certain level during times of lower oxygenation, lack of wind, decaying vegetation etc..

‘Tis a shame. I hate to see the fish dying there again. That pond has taken a beating the last few years.

Been fishing there since I was a little kid - this happens every few years. Don't know why.

Gotta have something to do with the plants/algae taking away so much oxygen from the pond that the fish can’t survive it. The water had this gross greenish hue and it just looks disgusting. Fish can’t survive in that crap

That's terrible. I fished it last year, and the bass were hitting poppers bigger than them. I was hoping of going back a year later hoping they would grow and get bigger... Not anymore

Have you caught carp there? I've only ever seen one koi, looked like a large goldfish.

Dunno what it is, might be the water quality, might be the pond hitting carrying capacity with too many dwarf fish, might be some chemical dump.

I just went there and there are a lot of small fish fry milling about all around the banks. Maybe that is the next generation.

Ha, I hope they are fry. But now that you say that they most likely are that.

It could be many things. Most likely oxygen depletion at night when the algae cannot photosynthesize snd it respires using up oxygen or a golden algae bloom that produce a toxin that prevents fish from breathing.
