Kahuna bass and I made some plans to head out to El Cap today as we heard the bite was going good and it had been a little while since I fished El Cap and over 20 years for Kahuna Bass!

We got there fairly early, a little after 6am, and noticed just a few boats already in the water. We launched and decided to head up to the north end since the water has come up so high, we wanted to check out the submerged trees.

We started flipping away and noticed more and more boats easing in. Took awhile but Kahuna bass got the skunk off the boat with a nice chunker here:

We finally got him his first bass of 2019!

We also noticed TONS of giant carp activity everywhere on the banks and in the trees. They were creating a giant ruckus splashing about all morning. I've never seen so much carp activity in one area.

I couldn't buy a bite so after a few hours we moved down the lake and looked for other juicy spots. We found a nice spot and I made a cast with my jerkbait and after a few twitches got slammed hard. Staysee 90 ftw!

We kept working the area but couldn't get any other bites, even on the drop shot too. We just slowly worked our way down the lake and fished areas that we thought were very fishy but couldn't get anything to bite. A few hours later I decided to change it up and toss out a big ol Texas Rig curly tail worm. I made a cast near a big partially submerged boulder and within a few rod shakes I felt a tap tap. Let him eat it and then wound down and swung for the fences. Felt real good to get another bite so many hours after catching my first bass.

Nothing big but definitely felt great to be on the water with my good buddy Kahuna bass!

Ended the day at 4pmish with only 3 bass. Oh well, that's fishing!

You always put one of the better reports together.
I gotta feeling that jerk bait is going to get hot real soon.

Awesome report as usual. Nice chunk for Kahuna Bass.

Which Orochi XX is that? I’m contemplating “The Brailist”, such a clever name for a bottom contact rod.

Might be for those who oppose "sight" fishing!

I have the Orochi XX Braillist, Diablo Spec R, and Flastside Special. All amazing rods. Highly recommend them.

Yea they were all huge too.

It has been my observation that when that Carp activity starts, the shallow bite dies. (at Sutherland)

Makes sense. The carp are spawning, and they do violently, so all the thrashing and stirring of the silt probably force the bait and bass in to deeper, calmer water.

Also forgot to note. We saw several large groups of baby bass fry hanging about throughout the lake too.

Last weekend my Son and I were there and we saw a coyote charging down the bank and launch into the water to grab what looked to be a 20 lb carp. It was awesome, he ran off struggling to keep it in his mouth. Wish I had it on video!

Don't want to hear that coyotes now fish! I have 2 koi ponds and coyotes on my property every night! So far, the yotes are only interested in rabbits, squirrels, and gophers! Yikes!

Ha Ha.. just make sure your Koi have a good place to hide and depth too. We had a 30' by 30' pond we made with a bunch of bass, bluegill and a few catfish but it wasnt deep enough. A couple of big storks flew in and in one night.. they were gone. Cheers!
