Gentlemen...Gentlemennnnn!!! We all know we are making excuses for our, less than satisfactory, performance out on the water this past week! Don't blame the weather for our poor fishing! Focus on the fish! We don't even know why mullet jump out of the water!!!!! :p

All this talk reminds me of the rainmaker the city hired back in 1916. After years of drought, the city hired a supposed rainmaker from back east. He did some hocus pocus....and then it started raining...and raining..and raining. The rainmaker of course took credit for the rain, until a couple dams broke and the city experienced terrible flooding. The guy never got paid and the city never attempted to mess with the weather again. One little detail the city didn't know back then was that it was an El Nino year and the rainmaker really deserved no credit for the rains. How does this relate to now, the El Nino back then wasn't man made...and neither was the drought before it. I just can't jump on the man made weather bandwagon yet, I majored in meteorology in college and there is thousands of years of droughts and flooding cycles that man had no part in. Now we've decided that man is now accountable for our weather..too much science for me to agree just yet.

I agree with your post but I do have a question. At which school were you able to major in meteorology? As a meteorologist myself, I've searched far and wide only to find majors in either atmospheric science or earth science with emphasis on meteorology...curious.

SDSU, a Geography degree with emphasis in meteorology...but it was 40 years ago. Back then I didn't know of any schools which actually listed meteorology as a major. With all the recent additions of nonprofit and for profit schools, I was guessing that someone would offer a meteorology major. Thank you for your information as I have not kept up with the college offerings.

Thanks for the clarification. I was already thinking about V-Day - but wasn't able to make the connection to the temps.

There is a new post from the NOAA today the 8th of Feb showing the mass amount of rain should hit us in the next few weeks. It shows the high pressure we are expereincing is very normal for an El Nino. The high pressure will start pushing North allowing the jet stream down accross Southern California. It shows that the end of Feb and March April could be the wettest on record. We might want to be careful what we wish for. The calm before the storm might be very fitting right now.

the rains are coming, you say... next month? i'm definitely dreading them for what damage they have already caused this month.

honestly don't think its gonna happen. we've been waiting...and waiting...and waiting for "the next month" forever and with beginning of march looking no different than today, we might as well just start talking about summer patterns...almost. Feels like we're nearing the end of spring.

Starting to look like its a real big long shot. Even NOAA changed their tune this week.

In April we are going to get massive amounts of rain. There will be hail too. I also predict there will be more sunlight than today, and the nights will be shorter.

However, I have been wrong in the past. One time, I thought I said something wrong, but I was mistaken.

Yup, and in June we'll experience the longest day of the year, the summer solstice. The skies will remain blue and there will be clouds from time to time.
    No question about that.
But I don't know how you can be so confident about April seeing what we have seen so far. We're getting rain next Sunday, if that manages to hold up. But that's nothing out of the ordinary. Just some overdue drops to fall.

No confidence in that at all. Figure no sense worrying about what the weather will be - so just make fun of it.

Northern and Central Cal is getting 100% blasted by El Nino. By the time this is over we could see every lake up there full and all the ground water replenished. That is huge.
