Went to Evans Pond in Scripps Ranch, next to the library, for a couple hours with the fly rod. Was going to look for koi but ended up catching about 20-30 fingerling bass and two decent bluegill. Not a big news item, I know, but if you're looking to take a kid fly fishing somewhere or just want some easy ultralight action, it's fish in a barrel right now.

Does it require a fee like the other municipal lakes?

No, it's free. Small pond. Use any wet fly, nymph or streamer around size 12. The fish will all be close to shore.

I saw one once. I think it might have been a goldfish.

And I was there today with the kids. We don’t quite have the right equipment, but we eventually tricked a few. One on a small rubber minnow and another on a rubber leg bug on Tenkara. I don’t think bass come much smaller.

I was over at discover lake and was walking the dam with my fishing partner today. Slayed the gills via nymph.

Small world! I always wonder if I’m going to run into a forum member when I’m out. Nice job yesterday!

I’m impressed with how clean the water is. I was a little sketched out when my daughter started dipping her feet in and playing in the mud (municipal pond, waterfowl, parasites, etc), but what could I do? She was happy and letter my son and I fish.

This little pond is a dream compared to chollas - it’s clean, the kids could often see the fish and there’s hardly anyone there, so they could run around. It didn’t matter to us that these were tiny bass. This was the highlight of his weekend.
