Ok, this might be a dumb question but here it goes
Why doesn’t anyone use eye black for fishing, especially off a boat?
I used it playing ball and I think it worked.

I’ve never seen anyone using it fishing and I’m sure if it worked people all over would be doing it. I had to ask myself “ what if everyone didn’t try it because nobody was trying it” hmmmm.
I think on my Barrett opener I’m going to put some on and either look like an idiot or start the new craze. I’m pretty sure it’s the idiot one but you never know till you try.
    What do you guys think?

Hmm... maybe because sunglasses work just fine?

Do you really need eye black and sunglasses?

Whoa.. Think you're some kind of gulf shark fisherman? Throwing plugs for stripers back east? Have some cultural consideration! We don't do those kinds of things here. While you're at it, you better use the SD jam knot on your freshwater surface lures, wear a hoodie and, when it gets hot, you had better be shirtless with that fishing buff on, comprende? I don't want to see any of that mierda that works in some other place used anywhere around here..

Wait.. kyle12345 , weren't we talking about this the other day? What was I saying?

I was thinking it'll help cut the reflection thats coming up from the water, glasses don't do that.
And yes, I played many years of baseball and have used it with shades
Anyways, dumb idea, thanks for the feedback.

Try it out.. Only way to know. I find our So Cal culture tends to ridicule the stuff that works everywhere else. I have found this true across the globe. Oh, that knot doesn't work here... WTF? .. That knot is dependent on region? Hahahaha.. Trust me.. Diamond jigs work here, yo yo works in the gulf, speed jigs work in Aus.. I have seen a lot more than some..

I've thought about doing the same thing when the sun is blaring off the water at the river.

Those Buffs are funny I cracked up at them when they first came out. I asked myself how did we ever catch fish and look cool with out them. Then I bought my boat and damn that reflection just makes the skin peel off my face. Seems worse than my kayak or my skin is just that much older.

I too use the San Diego knot for just about all line sizes. I guess they call it the San Diego Jam knot now. Sounds catchy. Going out on sport boat most my life here in San Diego I just picked it up. Ready good knot

I cannot count how many BIG tuna I have caught in the Gulf on a yo-yo 6x jr. Big Grouper, Amberjacks and Red Snapper as well. I have even caught a couple Cobia on surface iron. And yes...all using the SD Jam knot.

Yeah dude. Wear it. It only costs a couple bucks to buy, so if you don't like it just wipe it off and pretend it didn't happen.

I played ball a long time, too. I could never wear eye black because my face shape causes sunglasses to hit my cheeks too often. So, If I wore eye black, it would be smeared all over my sunglasses in the first 5 minutes. However, if you can wear both without interference, do it. I don't take chances with sun (father died of melanoma), so the only thing exposed on me is my fingertips. Yes, I am a buff believer.

Funny that something that covers would be called a "buff". Definition of being "in the buff" is being naked!

You guys know that there's those stick-on strips that are supposed to be just as good as the grease?

I'd try that before I'd want to get some eye black grease all over my costas. :)

I'm going for it and I'm not going to tell any of you haters how great it worked.
Ya right, if it works then I'm a genius and I'm telling everyone.

Werfless we sure were. I think it was around Diamond Jigs and how they are no longer used down here in favor of newer jigs like flatfalls.

I'm offended.:emoji_joy: Isn't that the popular thing to say now? "I'm offended?" :emoji_joy::emoji_joy: Why does it have to be black? Why cant it be brown, tan or one of those way cool juvenile colors like hi-vis green or orange, or hi-vis pink showing your support for breast cancer awareness?

Regardless of color, the stuff just cuts down on glare.. until it gets wet/sweat-covered - then it adds glare. See, back in my day, we used pure Zinc Oxide ointment under the eyes and on the nose. Zinc Oxide ointment is white (is anyone offended that I said white? Anyone? Last chance to file your lawsuit.. going.. going.....):emoji_joy:

The black stuff or the white stuff.. it all performs the same magic. Its just old school anti-glare for those of us that want to "pro it up."

Given I had little personal knowledge of the subject I did some research. The purpose of the ointment/strips is to cut down on light reflecting off your skin up towards your eyes. Both a buff and non mirror lens sunglasses will do the same job only better. I know which way I would go.
