Had the opportunity to fish with ejleh today. Started off slow, but man, what a tank opaleye, especially in shallow so early in the season. Ended up at the jetty whacking a few during the sunset session! Hell yeah, thanks for coming along dude! Hooked a couple fish deep and beat up the fatty, so ended the day with a couple for the fryer, including a nice little jetty sculpin, zero complaints. Mr L and myself ended up with quite a few fish when it was all done with.

Two totally different experiences. Fat fillets on that opaleye. Opaleye meat is very strange if you aren't ready for the texture, but the flavor is very nice. I have heard opaleye meat called "hairy", I think of it much more like pages in a book. It is very dense, as opposed to the lighter, flaky scorpionfish..

    Coach, prowling the jetty?!

Good to see you still have juice left in the tank to be out there. Not so old after all.

How would you compare/contrast the dense texture of an Opaleye to the dense texture of a halfmoon?

Good description Werf. Opaleye is one fish I’ve never eaten. Sounds real good. Flaky is good, but I kinda prefer the dense tight grain if I have a choice.

You aren't wrong. One for soup, one fat fryer, the other for ceviche, lol

I’m going to take a guess and say the Sculpin is ceviche. The Croaker is soup, and the Opaleye is gettin the fryer.
