first catch and new species of 2021 is... reef finspot

    I've been trying to catch one of these micro blennies out of the La Jolla or Sunset Cliffs tidepools for the past three years, but much to my surprise a friend found a population of them in Mission Bay. They were biting at night when he found them, so I headed down there last night to see if I could get one as well. They were surprisingly easy to catch once you spotted their heads poking out from under rocks.

    I use a third hand and a 15x magnifier for the size 2 and 3 hooks (spade eyed) for snelling (a bit smaller than size 14)...

    Love the post and thanks for the intel! Micro fishing is so cool.

    Do you know what species of blenny this is, or do they just get placed in a micro blenny group?
