I have read many time ppl caught crappies on bass lure like small jerkbait, Ned rig or swimbait. I’d tried many time fishing these type lure along with 1” crankbait and never work. Finally I caught not just one but a few on 2.8 Keitech Fat knockoff with 1/8oz jig head. Strangely enough I have not caught any bass with it lol.

I'll bet it was a decent size crappie - +11" ? Locally I've found the same thing: the bigger the fish, the higher the tendency to strike larger lures. That lure's length looks to be about 2.5" and it's normal in my experience, 3" not so much for panfish in general. Like the translucent almost clear body.

Thanks for sharing and the nice photo.

Sounds like you had fun with some great tasting fish. Pan fry them add some hash browns, couple of sunny side up eggs with Tabasco sauce and buttered white toast and you've got breakfast fit for a king

I believe we passed by each other at the ramp, you'd mentioned you got one on a 'bass lure', and were surprised. I'd mentioned it's not uncommon to get 'em on bass lures. I'd got one the week before, and this one an hour after we chatted! Ate a large spinnerbait. Remembered right after tossing it back, force of habit, of how good eating they are (compared to bass).

I tossed them back too along with all 14” I caught recently and spoonminnow is right the one I shown was 12” but I did caught a few below 10” as well.
Bassmagnum, I don’t usually keep fish I caught unless my wife ordered me to do so lol.
otay michael, maybe I should try those mini strike king spinnerbait, I still have some from years ago that never caught anything.
Anyone else caught crappies on bass lure? I still have a few mores that I need to try like kastmaster and rapala countdown.

I went back to see what I used. The lure is 2.5” and jig head is crappies jig head 1/10 (came with crappies magnet kit). I was trying to mimic the shad about 2” that stay close to shoreline for those green bugs. And of course gotta show my rig too.

Lol that's the reason I keep the 1 or 2 I catch and even then it's incidental. These day's everything goes back

"Anyone else caught crappies on bass lure?"

Most lures that catch panfish are multispecies lures. The Crappie Magnet grub literally catches everything freshwater when rigged on a 1/16 oz ball head jig as does the spike tail lure in your photo.
Color choices are many and never match anything when it comes to choosing them. Fish are provoked by a lure's action, size and shape in combination along with how slow you work the lure.

The Magnet caught four species on the same outing: bass, perch, sunfish and crappie.

The Beetle Spin rig when used with the Magnate and a curly tail grub also catches different species along with crappie:

These are other examples of lure choices that catch fish:

I strongly suggest you use 8# test braid as your main line for two reasons:
better strike detection; better hook sets when using a light action rod.

"Anyone else caught crappies on bass lure?"
Last week I decided to make a composite (hybrid) lure using the body a grub and the tail of a Gary Y Kut Tail Worm fused with a candle flame. Note the weedless jig:

Fishing for bass, at first it caught bass including the little guy:
    mxjVOVC.jpg ARXI3ZN.jpg wR0nK0Z.jpg

But then I started fishing other areas and started catching these species:

So like in the original post showing the crappie caught on a swimbait, if you're in the right place at the right time, you never know what fish of a different species will strike a particular lure. Blows me away every time it happens!

If it looks like something they eat, they'll eat it. That bait is mission accomplished
