Screen shot from another site. I’ve heard the same from a few different people that fished the lake yesterday. Top stick was 19 fish and is well known Barrett stick. If anyone wants to sell tickets I’m buying.

Wow pretty low numbers for spring time Barrett. Hopefully it starts to turn on in the coming weeks!

Yikes! If I remember correctly some of the media reports from last year were averaging 70-80 bass per stick. I wonder if they forgot a zero in that report and it should’ve been 250?????

I believe that is just a screen shot from bloody decks and not the OPs report. You would probably have to ask this question on BD where the report was actually posted.

I saw that and deleted it.
I hope we get some good lake info on other reports.
I really don't care how many they caught.

I’m sure that more reports will come out but who knows where or when. I saw on Facebook that parts of the lake were having a very bad algee problem.

That depends on what "we" ended up with 25 means. Is "we" 2, 3, or 4 fishing? Not a bad day even if it is 4, but nothing close to what the norm is for Barrett.

    Water condition?
Water was at same level as last year. Green and felt warm

    Grass, moss?
    No grass no moss

    Shad?
Saw lots of shad along the banks

    Bass busting on shad?
    No

    See any fish?
    No

Fish were biting spinnerbaits best, some jig fish and rattle trap fish. All fish were chunkier than Barrett fish usually are. All bites were shallow and associated with brush sticking out of the water. Someone said that it was likely slow due to the fish being in a post spawn transition but I don't know enough about green bass to have an opinion.

It was slow but there were enough bites to keep things interesting. Fun day!

I just got off the water. Definitely slower fishing than last year, but steady at times. Algae is going to be a factor for sure, most of the lake is green. It’s pea soup in some areas.

    A1FEDDDC-E3D9-430E-B469-FFFD0F16EF57.jpeg

The fish are definitely thicker than usual. The stable water level is paying off. Water looked to be about 2 feet lower than this time last year.

My buddy and I combined for 75 boated, 200 fewer than last year.

Not as much bait as last year on the surface, and very very little bass activity on it. Bait looks big.

The morning was terrible for us, it was 32 degrees when we got on the lake at 6:30. Once it warmed up the bite got going a bit.

Mostly all reaction bait bites. Accurate casts were really key, so use the right gear and put some thought into your angles and approach.

Water temp warmed up to 60-62 when we got off the water. Didn’t take a reading in the morning to compare though, but I imagine it started out at least a few degrees cooler.

My full report will be up on the homepage in a couple days. Just wanted to give you guys some tidbits to get started on preparing a plan for the opener.

I expect it’ll be better by May 2nd, bass should be a little more active and keyed in on the bait more. It’s probably not going to be as good as last year for quantity...but the quality will be real good this year.

The jig fishermen may run into some real donkeys this year.

Thanks Kellen for the report. I look forward to the full version. Sorry for posting info from elsewhere on the site I didn’t think you would be doing another prefish report.

I’ll take quality versus quantity any day! Thanks for the sneak peak. Hopefully you have some video footage like last year!:emoji_clap:

    Healthy looking fish.
Don't want to be a butt. But are the media fishing suppose to use barbless hooks?

No worries on that! The more info the better.

No video footage this year. The bite never really got hot enough to put the drone up. I had it and GoPros in the boat, just waiting to get into a good bite but it never happened.

We had to fish most of the lake to scratch up what we did. Unlike last year, didn’t really find any particular section of lake better or worse than the others. I’ll go into that more in the real report.

Honestly, the fishing really isn’t very good. It’s a lot like how it fishes later in the year, but these media days have so few boats out there that you can move around freely and pick a few off here and there and still put up decent numbers.

Only seeing the lake 1 day is not enough to definitively say what’s going on there, but in my opinion it felt like the fish were in the middle of spawning, then these cold snaps at night have pulled them back off. They’re in the normal staging spots, but not feeding aggressively like they would prespawn. If they were post spawn I’d have expected to see them much more interested in the bait.

The fish are in awesome condition right now though. Only caught a couple that had any blemishes or sores and those were spawning related. Caught a bunch of 2 pounders that really should’ve been like 1.25 pounds - young fish that appear to be growing quick.

Average fish size was probably around 2.25-2.5 pounds. I’d have said in years passed it was around 1.5-1.75. We caught at least a dozen fish over 3. Several safely over 3.5 but none that were over 4.
