This past weekend I checked out Mission Bay for the second time after getting skunked the first. I only had 2 hours to fish from 10:30 to 12:30 so I researched some different techniques as the warbaits underspin didn't do me any good last time. So I fished it slow....with a dropshot and then I get snagged in some structure and had to retie. So, I switched over to a ned rig instead because I like the zman finesse trd baits and thought I could increase my chances of hookup using a smaller presentation. Well, some patience did it right as each time I reeled back my rig I had some healthy eelgrass on my hook. Knowing I was in the right spot I kept at it and started slowly dragging it on the bottom and giving small short hops which landed me my first spotted bay bass, coming in at roughly 8 or 9 inches I'm estimating lol. It was a start for me and got me stoked just to see that small guy. No skunk today! About 10 minutes later, I get a bigger hit and at first thought I was stuck on a pile of eelgrass or something, but I just tightened my drag and reeled on. He was fighting real decent and I couldn't believe I got him in. I think he was or maybe just short of legal size. Looking forward to more and couldn't have done it without some of the helpful threads on here.
