Had the opportunity to ride along with a friend from up north who just bought a boat. He wanted to do a check out trip yesterday. Early start (4:30) and a very loooong bumpy ride out. Water was pretty darn lumpy all day. Anyway, we didn't go to Mexican waters since it was his and mine first trip. Hit the 9 mile bank instead. Ended up hitting three fish, but crakered off two. Got this one in the boat! I'm no longer a tuna virgin! IMG_5461.JPG

Awesome! Nothing like the sound of clickers going off while trolling. ( if that’s how you got em. ). That’s a blue fin tuna you’ve got there, by the way.

Sorry dude.....That First Tuna don’t count!

Tradition is tradition. Gotta respect the fish and Mother Ocean. Like the Sioux ate Tatanka Heart!

Now we’re gonna need video proof.....

My 18 year old niece ate a Skipjack heart and said, “it tastes like sushi.”

    You don’t wanna jinx yourself.......

I’m not gonna say I’m kidding about these rituals because I’m mostly not.........But you’d have my respect and that of any Salty/Crusty Dog on here if you did.....

And anyone who says you don’t have to, didn’t do it themselves.....

BTW, that’s rule #2 on the SS Geofish........right after rule #1.....No Bananas!

    Believe what you wanna believe.....

Heck, maybe I already jinxed myself. Didn’t know anything about it or it would of been done. Heart, liver, eyeballs, don’t make no difference to me. If it’s fish, it goes down the throat! Love fish.
So, now what? Is it possible to “un-jinx” myself.
I’m a crappy fishermen as it is, don’t need anything working against me...

LOL. I guess the only thing that could have saved you is when you gutted it at home, and you ate the heart then.

Now you owe us two hearts the next trip . As long as you promise the “Tuna Gods” that you’ll do it....they will give you another chance and that doubles your career total.....2 YFT!!!!!

I’m not joking here but you’d have to do a “John Wick Marker” and make that promise in blood before you board the SS Geofish......And since you didn’t know about our ancient rituals we would need to do a bag check for bananas......

    Just sayin!

BTW - rituals aside, I’m stoked you caught that tuna. There’s only one cure for “tuna fever,” catch some more and pout in the off season until they return......

tuna fever is a unbreakable addiction.... I am just starting to get into freshwater bass again after a 10 year hiatus chasing tail. I have not given up on tail but venturing off to bass.. West coast tuna fishing aint no joke from private boat... lots of long hours on wet rough seas to get your fix

I went Kayaking in MB Thursday night. No legals but a nice bendo on a double hookup DS. I thought I had a big fish but only two 12” Spotties........ and 4 others in the 6-8” range....

Yeah it was nice but the very next day I reeled in 5 Yellowfin from 15-22 lbs on 20 lb test Fluoro.........no comparison!
