Alright guys, what kind of shrimp are these? I saw some good sized smelt picking them off the bottom of a dock and I got about a dozen with a small net.

Agree with Werfless that those are likely to be grass shrimp, which is just a common name that covers multiple species. The better question is where exactly did you find them? It's ok, you can PM me if you don't want to shout it out to the interweb :emoji_wink::emoji_zipper_mouth:

They look like good bait, I bet you can keep them alive in a mesh bag off the side of your boat till you need them.

Looks like you've got a mystery shrimp. Not much on shrimp species in San Diego but I eliminated a few species like the black tail, pile and cali bay shrimp. Definitely not a ghost shrimp either.

I think I might have found what it is. I'm pretty sure it is a Coonstriped Shrimp (aka Dock Shrimp) Pandalus danae.

I'll do some more research. That's the closest I've seen so far, but it's still pretty red. The ones I got were super transparent.

Big ol' mullet washed up in MB, 20" or so and looked heavy! Good looking fish, quite a motor too, it's a shame they're not predators. Closest I've come to catching one was another hefty one jumping onto my SUP board and bouncing off of me back into Deanza Cove. I wasn't really startled but my inexperienced buddy paddling next to me freaked and fell in. It was then that I became a fan of the mullet... IMG_4422.JPG
