Is there a do or don't to fishing after rain? Specifically North County Lagoons? I went to Agua Hedionda with my son and we got skunked.
Also, what is the preferred set up for spotty or Hali this time of year?

Don't rub your eyes or pick your nose with wet hands after a rain . As far as fishing goes the perch seem to like it after some fresh water is infused . Be safe stay well . Tight lines . WR

Have not done well after a rain or high winds, especially if a cold front. But can be really good during the rain as it was yesterday for me. Not sure why.

BE CAREFUL... hook or fin punctures on your fingers, dinging your hand with a knife, any or all wounds can be totally life threatening the first few days after a rain...pay close attention, keep the salt, neosporin, H2O2, iodine, or tincture of choice very handy the next few days..

Batiquitos lagoon gave up a baker's dozen for me yesterday morning. Water was looking like week-old coffee (but didn't stink...yet). T-rigged Yum spine craw and Keitech easy shiners. PXL_20210124_135524701.jpg

I wasn't joking... Promise. If you don't believe me, let me know what you find on google.. handy search terms might include: caniform, coliform, southern california water quality, stormwater, water quality testing techniques...

You know I saw that you had liked his post; and was willing to write “if he’s silent... well that means if you really want to find out for yourself...”. But you’re to caring for that.

Would you pick up a syringe floating in the water? Messing with hooks is basically the same thing if you think about it

Ok, ok, got it. Lol, just making sure it wasn’t a gag.

*definitely* wasn’t calling anyone out for being FOS. Thanks for the info.

Don’t think any of us intended that. Pretty much everyone here is a straight shooter. Couple people sorting themselves out and a couple make me wonder if fishing is what kept the world from going full metal jacket.

Another thing to watch for is the debris piles that come out of areas with the runoff . On more the one occasion I have found rattle snakes along Torrey pines , I rescued a few from people tormenting them on the sand , some people just don't get it and won't leave things alone . Go figure . WR

Run off from a populace of 3 million people after how many months without rain? Yuck.

"Fecal bacterial" would be mentioned in all of those items. Take a hike in San Clemente, Rose or Tecolote Canyon some time when it hasn't rained recently, get a good smell of the creek water. The sewer pipes all run next to the creeks and some sewage seeps out into the creeks.
Also, the storm drains pour directly into the creeks, beaches and bays and all the dog poop washes down those during a good rain. In many of the bay and beach areas, there will be swimming closure signs up after a rain due to high bacterial counts.

Not a bad idea to wear half finger gloves to protect the hands from cuts when handling fish plus they prevent sunburn.

And don't use the bay fish for sashimi.
