Recently i have had an aversion to fishing solo. I spend a lot of time with friends on boats and fishing shore lines. My good homie comes back from alaska on the first and most likely will be making tons of trips with him.

But why do i have this aversion to going solo. I have the day off today.. well mostly.. from 230 to 530 i will be busy.

But i have tons of options

Throw ned rigs into harbor island for spotties.

Surf Fish mission beach with sand crabs or LC's

OB pier mackerel smashing. IM 1000% sure i could catch at least one.

all of this sounds great.. just not sure where my disconnect is

I understand where you’re at. I think fishing is always more fun with a group or buddy. Someone to talk to during the intermissions between bites. I would fish by myself if I have nobody to fish with, but I would love fishing so much more with a friend. Unfortunately, most of my friends are constantly doing soccer and football and other things, but when I get to fish with them the fishing is always great.

Sometimes I prefer fishing solo. I usually am more inclined to explore and look for new spots when alone

Do you do the LJ kelp solo and how is that going? Boat or Kayak? I still fish the bay and need to try the kelp soon but Leary of doing it in my yak.

I actually usually prefer to go by myself. I can go to the spots I want and I can also try new spots with no pressure.. When I take people with me I feel like I have to get them on fish, when I go by myself I can just relax.

If you go alone you can save yourself the embarrassment from setting the hook on grass :emoji_joy:

I've always been torn on the idea. I like fishing alone as it is my alone with nature time. And I get precious little of that time, and hold it dear. On the other hand, as I tend to fish late at night, in areas that are either rocky or filled with less than savory individuals, if anything bad happens I'm not up a stinky creek without a paddle. And since I am an eminently sub-par fisherman, I can live vicariously through the fish others catch if I myself am not catching.

Still and all, fishing alone is still fishing. It beats not fishing any day.

Or the whooping and excitement of “HOOK UP!” Only to reel in a 2 lb “Kelp-Tuna!”

I fish solo about 90% of the time, always been that way. You will focus more. You will learn more. Friends are cool too, nothing wrong with some laughs and cool photos. But if you are in learn mode, wether it be technique or AO, company will only distract. Maybe it’s just a me thing.

Shorepounding I am able to do it alone. Though peaceful and awesome, I found that the older I get, the more I enjoy the camaraderie, and memories I make with my friends and family.

My son and Niece and Nephews have so so many Firsts to experience that I find myself extremely stoked for them. And if I’m Skippering a trip these firsts get addicting. But I do feel the pressure to get them on fish.....

Two weeks ago on Kayak was my Son’s first short Barracuda. He let it go and I didn’t see it but his stoke was proof enough. No visual needed.

Last week his first legal Barracuda followed by another 4 days later.....Priceless! And I even had a first .....my first HoundFish.

However, I made a promise to my now deceased Father-in-Law 20 years ago after catching 5 Albies at the 390 solo......He sternly reminded me that I’d be leaving his daughter and 3 Grandchildren without a father should something happen........I have never taken a boat out solo ever since......

Robo1 .. Fished solo for years off MB, the jetties, OB, LJ, zuniga and up north from the kayaks. Rarely had a person go with me twice on the rare occasions I would get someone to go at all (long before I found this place). Just a shore fishing guy now, especially with my bad back, once in awhile I get out on a skiff tho. I do alright at LJ these days, occasionally, just fishing holes, rips and liquid structure.

I like fishing with others sometimes, but often like fishing solo. I feel i get in more of a zone when it's just me. I bring my dog with me some spots but there's no talking there lol. Comradarie of fishing with friends or pier buddies can be great but i often like to just zone out staring at the water. I probably do 80-90% of my fishing solo.

    I’m 50/50.

Sometimes the absolute silence that solo yields, mixed in with a little drag pulling, is perfection.

Same thing I say about eating cheesecake; I only do it when I'm by myself or with somebody!
