Yep. Couldn't agree more.. I love fly fishing solo in totally secluded Sierra streams, up to my knees in cold gin-clear trout water. The bay fishing I can go either way - just because there's so much bay out there.. and because I love spending time with my fishing family here.

There is something really special about fishing in a stream where the only thing you can hear is water, all you can do is take in the scenery and worry about your casting.

I tend to have an active mind, but when the water is good and the river is right, fly fishing might be the most calming thing I know....until I f*ck up a cast and get the line stuck in the tree. All zen is lost then.

:emoji_joy::emoji_joy::emoji_joy: That too. Was thinking about how many times I've walked in this one, particular gorgeous Sierra stream (shall remain nameless), watching the pools and eddys with intent, spying the larger models as they innocently slurp bugs off the top. Then me, false-casting one too many times and catching every random tree behind me, blowing the pool, sending the trout down, and ruining that hole for the next two hours because I was stupid.

I'm a dudette. I'll message you next time I head for PB. My mom lives down there and I go and stay a few days because the drive back to Lake Morena is looong.

Situational awareness is a must for fishing alone, for that matter, anywhere. I never fish alone, Misters Smith and Wesson are always along and if they don't go I bring my good friend from Italy

Ya, I thought I was alone in a beautiful steam in the Yukon catching grayling until a grizzly became interested in me. Next day a moose. Then a 40# salmon missed my leg by 18” as it went by in two feet of water at 30mph leaving a vapor trail. I was ready to get back to the Sierras.

    Fishing works either way.

I like fishing with friends, but when I do it's really about hanging out, not fishing. But one guy is always wanting to move when he sees me find a spot that's working. The other guy just likes driving his boat more than he likes fishing.

Some pastimes wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the ....uh...cameraderie and booze.

    Golf comes to mind....
