I’m recently getting in the Swimbait game and was wondering what type of line to use? Braid with mono or flouro leader, or straight mono/fl?

XXX Izor for most of my wakes etc. (17-20lb)
FC sniper floro for everything else (18-20lb)
no braid unless you want it for backer.
straight braid on rats is also preferred.

Straight braid for big baits is setting yourself up for a casting breakoff. Mono is good for rats and big wakes, sometimes you want that stretchy shock absorption when a big fish blasts it... which they will.

that sure is possible. After over 10 years of throwing rats on braid and never losing one, Im comfortable with continuing to use it.

What Nute said is spot on..... I too, throw straight braid for rats without any issues.

A lot of people tend to go to heavy on the line in fear of losing a bait. This will affect the action of the bait from how it was intended to function.

Just think of it this way, once you pull out the bait and tie it on, it's gone! You can't fish in fear of losing the bait because you'll never fish it. With that said, I've lost some good baits (not a lot) and it's usually due to my own mistakes. Always check your knot and retie often don't get lazy on this.
