I may have accidentally dropped some bread in the water. :) Mainly I spent the day hiking. That, and running from a snake. But it's nice out there I always have the place to myself. I posted an official report. I'm kinda burnt and TIRED.

Glad you got on a fish, regardless .. Lake looks great compared to the last time I saw it. Was basically a mud puddle a few years back when I looked at it last.. Next year could be some great fishing out there..

I scouted Morena on 10-30-2017. In the past, when the water level was lower, lots of brush started to grow near the shoreline. Now, with the water level higher, that brush is partially submerged, up to 30 feet from the existing shoreline. I felt that the brush would present lots of opportunity to lose tackle so I decided to fish off the end of the T-Dock, well beyond any submerged brush. At the end of the dock, the water depth is 12-15 feet. I brought along a one gallon bucket filled with field corn. I saw some hungry ducks so I tossed the corn off the end of the dock. The ducks were happy. The T-Dock is shown below.

Lake Morena .png The next day (Halloween), I loaded up the truck with gear, bait, wife and a couple of her Chinese friends. If we caught any carp, this was definitely going to be a harvest day, not a catch & release day. I got lines in the water about 0830, casting about 40 feet out. I was using packbait with a puff on the hook. The pack bait recipe is
    7cps soybean meal
    1 1/2 cp flour
1 1/2 cp Fruity Pebbles cereal
    1 5oz box Cherry Jell-o
    1 can cream corn
1 small jar Smuckers cherry preserves (12 oz)
The puff is just an Arrowhead Mills Puffed Corn. Anyway, for about two hours, I had no hookups but I did have a few "inquiries", either line bumps or nibbles. After that, The bite got serious and I started getting some runs, not ripping runs but runs nonetheless. The first fish landed was a small mirror.
Morena_1.png After that, all the fish were commons. They were all in the 5 lb range, nothing of any size. The Chinese mother/daughter were very interested in the whole process since they had never been fishing before. All the fish were distributed to various Chinese friends for consumption. Lake Morena lost 13 carp on that day. Fishing off the end of the T-Dock I lost no terminal tackle. I finished about 1330.

Fantastic. I need to be more patient and stick it out longer in one spot it seems. Werfless told me about pack baits. I'm not sure I am going to invest what you did in it but the one carp I managed to catch liked the shrimp. Every carp fishing day at Morena needs to be a harvest day even if you take them home and bury them in the garden. Morena won't run out. The dock is a good choice for me too. The snakes and brush were scary. Thanks for posting the info!

    Grits. One of my favorites.
Probably one of the simplest pack baits to make.
    18oz instant Grits (Quaker).
    9oz quick Grits (Quaker).
2 table spoons of Kosher salt.
14 3/4 oz Cream style corn ( Green giant ).
However, the grits pack will go "off" in 6-8 hours (no longer packs).

Added in Edit: Sometimes, I'll add a package of Jello, Cherry or Strawberry. The Walmart Great Value Gelatin Dessert, 3 oz, works fine also.

Thank you! With very limited fishing funds this one seems more doable.

You might try the Uni Knot. Several years ago, I started using the Uni Knot for everything and I never looked back. I've never had the Uni Knot become untied and I've never broken off because of the knot. The breaking strength is between 90% & 100%. Before tightening the knot, moisten it (spit works fine) Uniknot-knotdb.gif

Based on my harvest of 13 carp on Halloween, my wife took orders for my next Morena harvest. She lined up orders for 14 carp, so when I started fishing today, I was under pressure to land at least 14. No problem, haha. I fished off the end of the T-Dock again today, 11-07-2017, with lines in the water at 0900. I was using grits pack with a puff on the hook. The bite was on immediately and stayed on until 1110 when I quit with 21 fish landed. All the fish were between 5 and 8 lbs. The grits pack seemed quite a bit more attractive today than the soy pack on Halloween. Anyway, we distributed the 21 fish for consumption by friends and made some folks happy.

Who is the lady on the right? In all the pics she doesn't seem too happy to have dinner?

Maybe she is the one that has to clean them.
