I'm new to this site and love it because of people like you. That was one of the best fishing reports I've ever seen on any website. You're the man and thank you.

A sling shot(for the jet skiers) and plenty of stink bombs(to keep the paddle boarders away).
Other than that, plastics work, and shallow diving cranks will find you some silver right now.

If you know of anything gold that will strike a shallow diving crank in our waters then why not!

Really awesome write-up. Feeling a little more confident about my first trip on the bay. A couple questions though:

Probably will be fishing from shore or kayak (very) near Coronado in early July...

Currently running 20# PowerPro green on my primary baitcast, and 8# maxima ultragreen on my backup spinning, but I have options. Are these ideal?

How much lead are you throwing on your DS? And what size hooks?

Also, are you changing out your trebles on your cranks, or just using the stock hooks?

Haven’t seen much mention of spinners or spoons. Are they unproductive or just not used? Same question with poppers and other topwater lures.

Finally, does anyone flyfish? Not my forte, but I can be a light tackle junkie.

    TIA,

    AZ Red

The line on your reels are perfect.

I use stock trebles on my cranks until it's time to change them out.

Spinner baits definitely work, not my thing, but I've seen the best results working them alongside docks and empty boat slips. Spoons work great too, halibut and barracuda love em. Topwater lures of all types work well for corvina, barracuda, and even halibut.

There are plenty of people who fly fish our bays. Most of the fish from float tubes. But there are a couple dozen who love to shore pound the surf. Again not my thing, but I know many people who love sight fishing for corbina with fly rods.

Completely blown away by your willingness to share what obviously took you a lot of time and work to learn. Not many folks that I have met since moving here that are as open about spots, specifics and techniques. My hats off to you and hope I cross paths with you at some point. Tacos and beers on me.

I don't drink, but I am a sucker for strawberry lemonade, or an oreo cookie shake lol. Jk man, I'm happy to share almost everything lol. Almost.... The juicy stuff will be revealed if I ever leave San Diego haha.
Come on out to our Shore Pounders events and I'll let you pick my brain on some other non written material.
