Working near the water all day today, feeling that overcast mist every time I walked outside, had me jonesing. My coworker was arguing he didn't like this weather for fishing, which is the opposite of my opinion. We knocked out our work and I was off about a hour early, so I had to do it.
Armed with my cheap shimano combo, that I keep in my work truck for just such occasions, I tied on a 1/4oz bullet weight and a black and grey Zoom fluke jr. I Headed down to the first spot I could find as to not waste precious fishing time and launched it out as that 6'6" beater rod will allow. After twitching it about half way back I get slammed. As soon as I set the hook it peels a little drag and stops. Thought I lost it until i started cranking and felt that heavy thump thump on the end of the line and instantly knew what time it was. It was a good fight on 10lb braid and leader. Lost two big guys this month so I let it take 5 or 6 runs before I brought it on land. Glad I parked 10 yards away as I sprinted to grab the tape because it looked so close. Glad I did. Snatched a couple small bass before I left but It didn't compare.

CPR'd this guy since I didn't have a fillet knife or cooler....... just a fun experience.

Nice surprise, nice fish, I let a legal one go last year ( thought it would bring me good Karma) I and haven't caught a legal or a short or anything that looks like a Hali since, I hope that doesn't happen to you my friend.
Way to win a argument with your friend.
